OK - we're off and running at the year's third major. Perhaps we can have one thread to discuss all the goings-on over the next four days.

Great to see one of my heros growing up, Tow Watson atop the leaderboard - even if only for a few fleeting moments.

Here in the UK most of the so-called experts are picking Garcia, Westwood or Els to be holding the Claret Jug on Sunday evening. There are nods to Mickelson, Vijay Singh, Furyk and Jiminez.

Will Harrington last four rounds? Many believe he may be forced to quit sometime today.

My pick, Sergio Garcia - his ball striking is among the best and it seems that he's much happier on the green this year.

My pick: Andres Romero

The dude I'd like to see win it the most: Jim Furyk

My question: how is there not a decent webcast of the programming in the UK?

My question: how is there not a decent webcast of the programming in the UK?

There is a great webcast from 9:00am BST on the BBC website, but owing to rights & licensing, I believe it's only available to users in the UK. Much in the same way that Clear Channel doesn't allow non-US users access to streams of US radio stations.

I think there are about 18 Aussies playing this year, got to be a chance of one of them getting up I reckon!

Yeah it is good to see. BBC is really annoying me, they seem to just be showing the same 2 or 3 groups. People like Ogilvy, J.B Holmes and Daly are on the course yet they are showing none of them. They insist on following Westwood and co who aren't even playing that well.

Yeah, he is going terrible. He is 8 over through 12 at the moment. He couldn't land a put for his life atm.

the pool cleaner is cruisin' along, +2, he's rising to the occasion like he did at the torrey pines, gay boy isn't doing too bad as well, +1

They will beat their swords into golf clubs and their spears into putters. Nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they train for war anymore. Old Tom Morris 2:4

At 6:30am Pacific Standard Time it's looking like carnage and mayhem will be the rule this year. Some early brutal scores though Goosen has to be feeling good about himself sitting in the clubhouse at +1.

I'm staying with my boy Sergio, but AK is also one of my fantasy picks. Both are great players and will be there in the late rounds on Sunday.

I do enjoy seeing a +9 next to Fat Phil's name. :)

WTF is up with Ian Baker Finch, when talking about the weather, saying everyone is at risk for ear aches?

At least on three occasions he has mentioned this. I dont think I have had an ear ache my entire life and I have played numerous sports in various types of weather.

It just sounded weird to me thats all.

1 Putter

Sorry if this has been asked, but what is the rule on the cut line --- is it top 70 and ties (top 80 and ties), and all within 10 strokes of the lead (????)

Thanks

Can't believe these scores: Els, Singh, Weekly at +10, and scores of great players at +7 or worse.

And NORMAN grinding away at +1, wlld 1st round.
DUVAL at +3 is a very good round compared to what others did.

Go ROCCO . . .

ROCCO leader in the clubhouse!!!!! at -1 Wow

This is a great!

Unpredictable weather to match unpredictable players... who would have thunk:

Rocco, Allenby and Graeme McDowell in the clubhouse with a 69... finishing birdie, birdie...
Norman having a great day @ Even... he's got to be feeling good.
Adam Scott hanging in there after a ruff 16 & 17
Furyk, Weir and Retief coming in @ +1
Colin and Duval... got to be pleased

Phil??? Tuff day at the office
Els, Hunter, Weekly, Vijay... didn't see that coming
Daley (I know, I know unfair to characterize)

There are still more good stories out on the course!

Time to get in a quick 9 so I don't feel left out today. Cheers!

    • Day 133 (25 Apr 24) - Worked with the Divot Board today added a piece of cardboad behind the ball to help reinforce ball first contact. Contact improved through the round.   Added grandson's football goal posts about 10yds out to add a good start line visual Good session today.
    • Day 120: 4/25/24 Full Speed Spectrum training session. Low energy today and my speed was lower than normal. Will see what I can do on Saturday.
    • Day 541, April 25, 2024 Ten minutes after lessons. Still not caught up, but should be by tomorrow evening.
    • Playing irons only may lead to some short-term gains, but you'll want to at least practice with the driver if you ultimately have some decently good goals.
    • He plays from 68.3 / 124.  A combo tee setup of normal mens and seniors.   I play from 69.7/127.   He left after taking a triple on 14 and then leaving.  Which plays to what I think his plan is,   He doesn’t stroke on 14 but would have to take bogey for non completed holes on the way in.   Maybe that’s giving him too much credit, but he found a way to add 4 shots to his score over three holes so….     I looked up his last 20 rounds in GHIN and he has a lot of rounds at easier courses (rating and slope) that are higher than his normal rounds at home.   Since I mostly have his front nine score during the match (36) to go on, he has three nine hole scores at our course posted that are 41-43. I wrote the whole thing up to the head of our golf association who runs all the tournaments.  Our pro is not involved officially in the tournaments because the golf associations are separate from the club.   He’s pretty well known for this, however I was pretty shocked at how well he played carrying a 15.   I think eventually they will do something, a lot of people have complained.  The golf association threw someone out a couple of years ago and it was a three month situation where the guy retaliated.  They probably are hesitant to go thru anything like that again.  That is a rather crazy story I might post about later.
