How many of you using 2 iron? When do you use it? In what situation?

I'm not a good fairway wood hitter, so I'm figuring what to use for 200 yards or more. My hybrid only goes as far as 180 yards.... and the ball flies high on a stiff shaft....

Thnx.
Ronald

I still carry a 2 iron. I love my long irons. I have never liked fairway woods, just can't hit them. I hit my 2 iron 215-220 and have an older Cobra Multi-Metal Baffler 20* hybrid that I had bent to 19* that I can hit 230-240 so I really have no need to a 3 or 4 wood.

Have you tried a lower lofted hybrid, like 17* or 18*?

I've always preferred long irons over the hybrids. I do use a 3 wood but I'll use my 2 iron before my 5 wood. I get good distance and it's pretty accurate.

I am making a conscious effort to incorporate woods/hybrids in my game but my 2 iron is accurate and reliable.

i have a 2 hybrid and i hit it almost as far as my 3 wood, about 220-225 yards and it is deadly accurate. I use it off the tee, from the fairway and the rough, and when i need to punch it. i feel that it is the most versitle club in my bag.

Yep. I have a Ping S59 Tour that is simply awesome. Long, straight and surprisingly easy to hit off the tee or off the deck. My "go to" club for a tight tee shot. Goes about 240ish and at the moment it's getting a lot of use coz I can't seem to get comfortable with my 4-wood!

I'd use a 1-iron if Taylor Made made one... I kinda get stuck with the whole Driver, 3-wood, 2-9 irons, Wedge, Gap wedge and sand wedge.... putter set up... I hit long irons very well and hybrids just don't work for me...

I have one, and I used it most of the season, but I found it was just to hard to build up confidence with it, so I bought a 2 hybrid.

i personally do not like to use long irons. they are a safe shot in most instances if you are a good iron player. i consider myself to be a good iron player, but i've never used anything higher than my 4iron in most rounds. i carry a 3iron sometimes depending on the type of course and conditions, i personally carry a 2i 19* hybrid and i love it, but i've never hit an actual 2iron that i've liked.

My 2 iron is finding it's way in the bag alot more than usual. I have been having difficulty with the 5 wood. My 2 iron is my go to club for tight fairways(lie and width). Actually here lately, my 2 iron and 3 iron are my tee clubs. I have always been a better iron player than wood player. In high school, I carried a 1 and 2 iron in my bag. I wished Callaway made a 1 iron for the X-16Pros series.

I do have one (and a 3 iron though you would not know from the sig line), I take it with me to courses with very tight fairways and tee off with it, I rarely use it out of the fairway as it's 3/4"+ standard and shafted with graphite and I just don't feel comfortable off the deck with it.

YEAH
Use it on fairway on longer holes and off the tee on tight holes. Also gives an option to roll up when close to green. I play a callaway BB 2 iron and I find it easy to hit. I find it travels round 200. You should get one off Ebay for round £25 if you want to experiment.(or under $50 if you are in the states)
Dont know what your hybrids loft is but if you think you are not getting value distance wise the stiff shaft may be the wrong option.

Hope this helps

The irons I learned how to play with were King Cobra SS forged 2-GW. I recently purchased a hybrid but have never been as accurate with the hybrid. I do carry the hybrid instead of the 2 iron now; but I rarely use either. I live in Texas where they frequently overwater during the summer to keep the fairways from cracking, and in the fall for overseeding. Playing off of wet ground frequently is easier with a hybrid than a 2 iron.

    • Yea Club Rat said it. I really enjoyed the Senator and the Judge, then over to Grand National where there a couple good courses plus a fun par 3. The one I do play whenever I visit there is Ross Bridge; something about this course that is just good fun. I hope to play more of the courses in the future, but tomorrow is promised to no one, so hope is the key word. Have Fun, iSank

    • Day 56: 4/19/2024 Okay, even though I'll be teeing it up in a tournament in less than a week. I couldn't find time to get to the range today.  I spent time on the indoor putting mat.  And I spent time in front of the mirror with my 7 iron. Then again later with the driver.  I also thoroughly cleaned all my clubs.
