Read this today, and couldn't help but laugh. However I sometimes wonder if Phil is always the bad guy, as they make him out to be. As for Stevie's comments a little inappropriate, but you can't blame the guy for saying how he feels.

Kudos to that fan that called out to Lefty...how come no one has done that before...that we have heard of anyway....

I wish we would hear more stories like this from the PGA Tour...

I like steve williams. I bet tiger loves the fact that he can almost talk through Steve. If Tiger said he hated mickelson and called him a prick, the PGA and sponsors would not like that at all, while his caddy can say it and the tiger & company can just say "its been discussed and dealt with" lol hahaha. Mickelson is such a tool!!!

Kudos to the fan? For what? Being rude? The tournament should have thrown the fan out. As far as Phil is concerned, I've never been a big fan or his, but I don't see how he deserves being called a prick by Tiger's caddie. Tiger should fire this guy. No class what so ever.

Williams is an uncouth jerk. Always has been. But Phil is a class act, and his response shows it:

"After seeing Steve Williams' comments all I could think of was how lucky I am to have a class act like Bones on my bag and representing me,"

Apparently Tiger has dealt with Williams on the issue too... how he did it was not detailed, but you get the feeling that he wasn't too happy about cleaning up his caddie's mess.

Tiger's response:
"I was disappointed to read the comments attributed to Steve Williams about Phil Mickelson, a player that I respect," Woods said in a statement Monday. "It was inappropriate. The matter has been discussed and dealt with."

I have never met Phil but know a number of people who have. They all say he's a great guy. I've never understood why some people dislike him so much. Williams is entitled to his beliefs but what purpose does it serve to call someone a prick publicly?

i thought williams' comments were rude and classless. he's nothing but a caddy for God's sake. for him to say something like that about a person his boss has to "work" with is just classless imo. Fluff got fired for talking to much, and Williams sure opened his big mouth this time. Im just curious as to what Tiger meant by " this matter has been dealt with "

I remember vaguely meeting Phil coming off of the 18th at like the 2000 Shell Houston Open or so. The guy is awesome. He talked to me, the crowd, signed autographs...very pleasant, friendly, overall great dude.

You never know what really is happening between Tiger and Phil, but it sure makes you wonder.

Not only is Williams rude but he is also a liar. That never happened with Mickelson. That is an old Colin Montgomerie story where he just changed the name and event.

Plus I thought that was pretty humourous, mickelson just needs to suck it up and prove his doubters wrong. People would respect him a lot more if he won the majors he was in real contention.

That story has been refuted by writers who showed that Phil wasn't playing in one of the events Williams described and that it's a commonly told story about Montgomery.

It may be accepted in Australia, but it's still classless here. I don't care whether Williams likes Mickelson, but he's a jerk for thinking he has a license to be boorish and spew wherever he feels like it. If you want to be on the international stage you have to show some awareness of international norms. This isn't pro tennis.

Williams 3 skills are in assaulting or berating fans who he thinks are not being respectful of Tiger (ironic, huh?), wiping clubs down, and high-fiving after Tiger displays his skills. Great job you're doing there, Stevie. You'd think PR-savvy Tiger would impress upon 'ol Stevie that if he alienates public segments, those endorsement deals won't be quite as lucrative, and it could come back to bite Stevie, who clearly has trouble thinking with anything other than his you know what.

I like Mickelson's response saying this shows why he's so glad to have a stand up, classy guy like Bones McKay on his bag. Nice to see him taking the high road over this new zealand moron, look buddy you're not the one making the shots, let tiger do the talking and shut your mouth.

Does anyone think tiger would be any less succesful with anyone on his bag? Know your role, this is the type of stuff that got Fluff canned, hope he gets the same treatment.

I see both sides of the coin on this one, and Mickelson, as usual, responded with the textbook Grade A political answer. Keep in mind that gallery responses are often borrowed and carbon copied---how many times have you nauseatingly heard "you da man" or "get in da hole".

Stevie, classless yes, but certainly honest and funny. Tiger, as usual, with polished reprimand. If we were privy to half these guy's jokes and jabs (Tiger and Phil) they tell on the course or in private, I might like them (Tiger and Phil) a little more. Both of these guys (T+P) have similar ego personalities, which is why they dislike each other. They see the worst in each other because they see the worst in themselves when together.

Golf, at its core, is a game of honesty. Sometimes the truth hurts. Truth is often subjective.

Rumor has it, (and I emphasize rumor so don't quote me or refute I'm just reporting on well rumor) that Stevie was paid directly out of Tigers Buick endorsement funds and that his contract did not emphasize a % of winning like most caddies. Well now that the Buick money is out word has it Stevie is asking for around 15-18% of the world #1's earnings, the percentage in on par for most PGA pro caddies. Well 15-18% of TW earnings are not 15-18% of other tour pros and it looks like camp TW won't pay up. Stevie may have been on the out already and simply "doesn't care" anymore, hence the comments. Pure speculation but if that's true it would make sense and not surprise me.

I like the fact the golf is a game where people emphasize good manners and sportsmanship. Caddies are how caddies are...and maybe it's just better if we don't interview them. He did not impress me one bit and I am surprised that a classy guy like Tiger would be associated with such a boor.

Was what he said wrong, No I don't think so. I think it was wrong that he said it so that it got out. What you say in silence to people close to you is one thing. saying it to the public when it can ruin your potential check holders' rep is another thing. There is also a fine line of being blunt and dumb. Do I think that Tiger doesn't say more profane things? No he is human just like us and I could see him getting mad at something and spittin off words. BUT, he is a business man and doesn't endanger his status. As long he is on that course and doing what he does to make money he is very political in his manors. After that it is a big toss up on if Stevie will be on the bag. Tiger has always done good and I don't think a change will affect that too much.
