I need some advice on this topic. I used to keep my clubs in the house. After my round I would bring my bag in and store them in the spare bedroom. I now have my brother-in-law staying with me. So my clubs got pushed out in the garage for now. It isnt heated. Will the cold weather hurt them? Maybe your help will get them pulled back inside. Maybe I can get my golf room back soon!

In my bag.

Mine never leave the trunk of my car unless I need the space to carry something else. If they do come out of the trunk it's to go in the corner of the garage. In 35 years I've never had an issue due to cold.

Unless the temperatures in your garage are very extreme, there should be no problems other than your clubs may not be happy and will be sure to let you know come next round.

Golf balls, though, are affected by the cold so it's a good idea to keep them warm. It won't cause long term damage, but they will be harder and will not compress as well.

This is true, I watched a report on the golf channel about this and cold golf balls don't go as far. I don't remember the exact numbers but it was pretty significant.

I doubt if the cold will have any negative impact on your clubs. That being said I would move your brother-in-law to the garage and your clubs back into the room. My wife tried to make me leave my clubs in the garage once, but it aint gonna happen. Nor would I leave them in my trunk. They are either inside the house with me or in my locker at the golf course.

I better go get my balls out of the garage then. I keep my balls in my bag. That is a good case to just move the whole bag inside lol.

I wouldnt be worried about your clubs, but the cold can harm your golfballs. They tell you that when you store golfballs that you shouldnt allow them to be exposed to extreme heat or cold. Not sure what they mean exactly by, "extreme" cold, but I wouldnt allow them to freeze.
Id also be worried about a mouse chewing up your golf bag or leaving you who knows what little, "surprises" (mouse poop in one of the pockets).
I say keep the golfclubs in the house and move the brother in law out to the garage.

Well I don't have any mice that I know of. I am sure my dog would let me know if we did. He hates mice. I did bring all of my balls in the house last night. I am married. My wife won't let me keep my bag in the room. Are you crazy?

I agree with those above. Storing them in the cold should do no harm. I use my father's clubs since I just started a few months ago. I store them the same way he stores them - in the shed. They stay in there all winter and until the snow is gone. Living in western NY they see some cold temperatures.

They play just fine as far as I can tell and they are around 30 years old I am guessing.

My balls are now a different story though. I remember going to play one last time during the first minor, minor snowfall this winter and I ended up cracking a ball in half! Gave me a great excuse for a high score though. Golf balls in the warm for me after that (and reading what others have to say about them)

my wife usually gets mad when she wakes up to find a wedge or putter in bed with us, but what can I say... I am also one to never let my clubs stay out it the cold.

How about storing them in a closet, in the attic or in your basement?

I store my golf stuff in a spare bedroom. Luckily for me though, I dont have a wife to answer to. Thats one of the nice things about being a bachelor. I know what its like though. My ex-girlfriend wasnt at all supportive or understanding of my love for golf. She never hesitated to tell me how stupid she thought it was and how much she thought it was a waste of money, which is one of the many reasons why she is my EX girlfriend. LOL

When my girlfriend moved in, we collected all my Man Stuff (golf stuff, guns, ammo, gear, etc.), and had to reorganize it. Guns, ammo, and associated gear went into the gun safe . . . golf bags and assorted clubs and boxes went into the game room, which I think was cool . . . a bunch of golf bags and clubs up against a wall. Adds to the fung shway of the game room!

The lady and I were in linen's and things when they were going out of business and she made me get a golf rack for my bags and stuff. She was tired of me having one bag in the living room, and one in the study, leaving some more golf stuff all over the place so she confined me with that rack to a corner, but I bring them in all the time. I've got just enough space to fit a swing so I'll whack some foam balls inside the house at the wall.

and the frozen golf balls thing, I usually hit my 60* about 80-90 yards and when they're frozen, they go about 25 yards, super high spin, and a lot lower trajectory than I've ever expected. it's not even like hitting a golf ball anymore, there's no pop, so you should definitely bring those inside.

I don't think I could make it with my golf bag in the car. I need to finagle the clubs every day and putt and chip around the house and junk like that. I've got a problem.

One thing that might be a good idea is to wax the shafts of your clubs if they are going to be stored in garage. This is just to protect them from any moisture that they might pick up and will help protect them from getting any rust on them. You can use car wax, which works really well, or I think there is a wax sold especially for this purpose. I have always just used car wax.

...and I'm sure the wife and brother-in-law will love it when you say you're going to the garage to wax your shafts.

Garage will be tough on your grips, too. The moisture and the temps conspire to make them less pliable and age them quicker. I'm a grip freak and couldn't allow this to happen. The things are too expensive to replace on a whim and they are too critical to ignore.

I use the excuse to my wife that the epoxy that the heads are glued on with is affected by the heat and cold of our garage.

She's been really cool about storing them inside.
