Well, all too often the golfer that broke the window is a jerk and just leaves without owning up. Kudos to you for taking responsibility.......you hit it and you were right to offer to pay for it. I'd say it's at least 50/50 that the homeowners just fix it and don't bother you about it.

After talking to them I'm pretty sure they want me to pay 100%... It was dark by the time we got to the clubhouse so I didn't have time to ask them about if there was a policy about it. The guy told me that people hit his house all the time, but never broke his window. I'll call up the course tomorrow and see what's up.

when my dad broke a window in a house thats right off the fairway in slicers alley... he just had to pay 50% of it.. the homeowner paid the other 50%.

when you walk into the proshop, theres a sign stating that the golfer takes all responsibility for any damage that occurs to any residental property during play...

personally.... i think its silly to build a house right off the fairway... i'd be worried to let my kids play outside... unless they had a helmet on...

I think its the homeowners nickel. They live on the course and assume that responsibility. Did you salvage the hole?

nah I was shaken up afterward lol, i shouldn'tve been... I think I was more shaken up that I hit such an incredibly horrible shot. Also, my friends finished the hole by the time I was done talking to the guy.

Can you get insurance for this?? I mean, as a golfer? What if you KILLED someone? ( I mean, what if a person does, not YOU exactly... )

On but off topic. When playing an away course at one of our high school golf matches we approached a green and when we got there i saw two houses being built right behind the green. No lie if somebody is deep by 5 yards of this green the houses along with the 5 windows on the back of each of them are at high risk. To add to it the cart path runs behind the green so one good bounce from it and lord only knows what will happen. Whoever is building these houses must have no common sense.

Don't pay a thing until you talk to a lawyer. I believe the government ruled that it is the homeowners responsibilty. Look into this deeper.

The house may have been built before the course was made.

my course also has a sign that says we (golfers) are responsible for any damage a ball causes to a homeowners house. however, i think it is BS. i would think that their homeowners insurance should cover it and that they prolly even pay extra on their policies for instances such as this since they live on a golf course (not sure, but seems logical). do some homeowrk before you fork over any $$$

If you want to pay for it, that's a nice gesture. Don't know the laws in your state, but generally, if you weren't intentionally trying to hit their house, their problem. As for those whose courses put up signs, the course may be wanting to make clear the course is not responsible (thanks a lot), but that shouldn't control anything between you and some individual homeowner (unless there is something written into your membership about that you have expressly agreed to ). Their homeowners insurance should cover, though the deductible could be an issue.

Only if you know a lawyer buddy that will give you some pro bono advice.

You could spend $250 for five minutes with a lawyer to find out you owe nothing (and are still $250 out!) or have to pay and are now $500 out of pocket!

I don't know how the basic rules of life change for this situation. You saw the house, you swung, you broke a window, you pay. Homeowners' deductible will be more than the window in 99% of the cases. Don't hit it next time!

    • Day 56: 4/19/2024 Okay, even though I'll be teeing it up in a tournament in less than a week. I couldn't find time to get to the range today.  I spent time on the indoor putting mat.  And I spent time in front of the mirror with my 7 iron. Then again later with the driver.  I also thoroughly cleaned all my clubs.
