Just had a question about these clubs. I am currently hitting Cobra SSI irons. I love the clubs and hit them pretty good. There is a set of the callaway x14 pro series in the pro shop at my home course. They are used but in great shape. My question is do you think i would be able to hit them with being use to a cobra?

Have you taken them out yet? If they are demos not only can you play with them to see if you like them but you will probably get a great deal on them...see if you can take them out or at least go to the range with them.

The X-14 Pro Series is a great set of irons. A lot of people think the X-14s are the best of the Callaway X-series irons, and the tour players who used the Pro Series version were very slow to change (I think Annika never did switch to the X-16s, keeping her X-14PS in the bag until the X-Tours/X-18s came out).

I've played all the Callaway X irons from the first (X-9 were the original Big Bertha irons, X-10 the redesigned Big Berthas in 1996, then the X code names went public with the X-12s in 1998). I think it's a toss-up between the X-12 and X-14 irons as to which is better (X-12: more forgiving, longer; X-14: more solid-feeling, better looking). The X-14PS is great. Easy to hit, but lower offset so you can work the ball a bit easier. A real "players" cavity back. If you are a decent iron player, you can handle these.

I've heard a lot of positive feedabck with the X14 pro series that they're one of the best irons Callaway has ever came out with. You should be able to hit those clubs, and if you're not satisfied with them, the resale value for those should still be good. Cheers!!

I just bought a new set of Calloway X Series N415 irons and I love them. I've only played two rounds with them but my shots are definetly straighter and at least 10 yards farther. Does anybody happen to know what model year these clubs are?

Generally, the N designation for Callaway means it's a rebranded old model sold at discount prices. Sort of how Apple took the iPhone 5's guts and put it in the plastic iPhone 5c. Some of the cosmetic touches might not be as nice (my X-24 doesn't have the beveling of the proper model X-24 Hot around the rear cavity) Quick googling makes me say this looks like a rebranded X-Hot iron set. That was the 2013 model. Should perform admirably though. Lofts may be less strong than the model they're inspired by, which can be a good thing. Check their site and compare.

Dom's Sticks:

Callaway X-24 10.5° Driver, Callaway Big Bertha 15° wood, Callaway XR 19° hybrid, Callaway X-24 24° hybrid, Callaway X-24 5i-9i, PING Glide PW 47°/12°, Cleveland REG 588 52°/08°, Callaway Mack Daddy PM Grind 56°/13°, 60°/10°, Odyssey Versa Jailbird putter w/SuperStroke Slim 3.0 grip, Callaway Chev Stand Bag, Titleist Pro-V1x ball

Thanks buddy. So far they have performed great. I need to hit the range to try to dial in the longer distances though. :-)

    • For such a nice membership, there have been some bad incidents in the past few years.  We had someone voted out a couple of years ago over something he did and he harassed the board members for three months until he moved out of the area.   Generally they’ve tried to do things like tournament handicaps and identify certain people who they know should be lower and adjust it somehow.  I can understand not wanting to go thru something like the guy who was voted out again i emailed the pro who forwarded it to the handicap committee.  They are going to see what can be done.  I walked someone thru what happened and they are going to nudge him to post the score from the match and see what he does.  Since he didn’t put anything in the electronic scoring past 13, based on how he played 14 and 15 plus having to take bogey on 16-18 for after he left, he should post 83.  We’ll see if it’s even higher,   Since he was really even thru 13, then doubled 14 and parred 15 my guess is he really shot 75 being generous and giving him 2 pars and a bogey on the three holes he didn’t play.    i shot 88, getting 16 shots for my course handicap which is net even and I lost on 13.  We do brackets where handicaps should be within 4-5 of each other.  Most matches only have 1-2 shots as a difference between players  neither of us posted the score yet.  There was something in the match play rules about whether or not to post your score.  I couldn’t remember if we were supposed to or not.  I don’t think he was going to post that, because even with his inflated score it would be the lowest score in his recent 20. Lucky I didn’t because they want to see what he does post and they don’t want me posting so he can try to calibrate his score.
