Yes anyone here ever have a BAD hangover and have it affect your game?

I played Friday night and played on a new course, I walked 18 on a hilly course and still shot my HC. The ball striking was good especially with my Driver.

Saturday night I go out to a meeting/party and do something I dont normally do, drink drink and drink. My wife drove me sober. But damn I was so hungover the next day, Sunday. I think my body lost its muscle memory on Monday. I poorly hit my driver (topped 11 drives!) and my 60*(skull city) and almost every other club except my putter. The putter drained 5 or 6 10+ foot putts and no 3 putts.

Just wanted to hear if anyone ever played crappy after a bad hangover, worst of mine since college.

Been there, done that, bought the T-shirt. I've learned my lesson that either the drinking or the golf has to be given up because the two don't mix at all. Played some of my worst rounds while hung over, the walk actually does me good but the part when I have to actually hit the shots is a different story.

Sure does affect my game... Need to avoid the hangover at all costs. Of course that's probably a whole other thread. Drink a glass of water to every two drinks during the party. When you're ready to shut 'er down for the night, take 3 advil and 2 NyQuils. You'll wake up fine as wine...

And remember what ole blue eyes (Frank Sinatra for the age challenged) used to say, "I feel sorry for those that don't drink. When they wake up in the morning, that's the best they're going to feel all day."

Smile, it makes people wonder what you're up to...

To tell you the truth, I've played some of my best rounds of golf with a hangover and having had only a few hours of sleep. My only explanation is that I either don't overthink my shots and just execute instead or that I'm relaxed enough that I'm making consistent contact. Either way, it seems to work for me!!!!

I try to avoid mixing hangover and golf, everytime i go out playing the next day, i **** up my swing for an entire week! Will hit nothing but shanks for the next 3 days and swore to never drink before a round of golf again, strange but it happends every ****ing time!

I can see how that may help, your swings probably much more established than mine. I just began to hone mine in. then poof ! gone. Now would be the time to get lessons!

With alcohol comes responsibility. It's something that can get away from you (particularly you younger guys) in a hurry. That said, I'm a pragmatist and know sometimes we have a little too much and end up hungover. Try this cure;

2 Tylenol & a "Pink Cloud"

For you youngsters out the a Pink Cloud is equal parts Pepto Bismol and gin.

The absolutely best trick to prevent a hangover is to drink a huge glass of water before you go to bed that night. Works like a charm for me. The best way to ease a really bad hangover is to have another beer. It hurts going down at first but helps out in the end.

Eggs in the morning always helped my hangovers. But I agree with most here on this thread - golf and hangovers dont mix.

There was only one time I can remember being truly hungover and playing golf (stupid move to promise someone I'd play the day after St. Patrick's Day). Lets just say I had to leave the course by the 12th hole - the one and only time I ran out of balls.

I usually play better,,,,especially on a bad one. I seem to not care or think about swing thoughts or any demons and strike it pure.

2 Tylenol & a "Pink Cloud"

I would definitely hold off on the Tylenol after drinking. In combination with the alcohol, it will seriously destroy your liver. Try taking any NSAIDS (ie. ibuprofen/naproxen) which will be a better alternative.

I agree with you. I've played the best rounds when I have a terrible hangover and few hours of sleep. I don't know why but that happened.

Tried it once; never again. Lots of water the night before helps the headache but not the dodgy guts.

If you get blasted, you'll bottom out on your blood sugar levels by next morning. Get some glucose/dextrose (or lots of fruit juice) in you. Should help a lot.

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

My experince is that boozing (either the night before or on the course) leads to very good rounds or very poor rounds. I've never been able to grind out a decent round while hungover or drinking on the course, but shot both a 67 and an 85ish round last summer while being not sober. Seems like booze can take the edge off of difficult shots, putts especially, or lead you to do dumb things just like in regular life!

    • Both @DaveP043 and I play in our interclub matches every year, and have been team Captains as well.  There are always a few courses, mine is one, that win a lot of matches (we've won twice in the last 7 years), and we've been labeled as sandbaggers.  However, I really think that our course was rated too low (our greens just never seemed to get factored in enough), and thus our Handicaps were always a stroke or maybe 2 above, what they would've been if the course was rated higher.  And then when we went and played other courses, their slope and rating were much higher than ours, and sometimes I would get a 2 or 3 stroke bump on top of that.  It was definitely an advantage.  However, this past year, our course was rated again and the slope has gone up, so we'll see if we continue to have the same benefit.  Season starts this Sunday for us.
