I got a teetime tomorrow, and I've been waiting all week to go out. Its supposed to rain on and off all day, but I still want to make it out there.

Any tips on going out in the rain? Extra preparations? We've all been caught playing when it started raining, but would you go out if u KNEW it was gonna rain?

Keep a set of rain gloves in your bag.....the type that play best when saturated with water.

Have rainpants and water proof shoes obviously. Like Dub said, bring extra gloves and don't be upset with how you play because it is so bad out there.

I just look at the forecast and don't go if it's gonna rain. I don't even have an umbrella.

The course I'm going to tomorrow won't even let you use the range if it's rained recently.

I was wondering last week, when it WAS raining and I wanted to play. But I felt too weird to show up while it was pouring and asking if I could go on.

So I ended up calling and they said they were closing in half an hour...... but I was wondering when they stopped putting people on........

Rain golf seems like a lot of fun to me.

Be sure and update with what happens!

If your riding I like to take an extra towel to wrap around the grips of my clubs if i have to take 2 or more to the green area with me for chipping. That way when you lay them on the ground the grip stay good an dry.

I love playing in the rain. As long as there is no lightning a lot of courses will stay open.

It is typically nice on those days because the course is pretty quiet so you can get through a round in about 3 hours with the other non-fair-weather-golfers.

The other nice part is the greens are typically pretty soft so approach shots are typically like throwing darts into the green. Make sure you fix your ball marks though.

I played today in light rain. I always will unless it's bitterly cold and windy. I figure if I am in a tournament and it's raining I'll have some advantage for all the practice.

Anyway, I take GOOD rain pants (used to have so so ones...what's the point?), waterproof shoes, gaiters (yes), seam-sealed rain jacket, rain gloves, extra towels.

Have fun and be gentle with the course.

LOL, I live in the northwest and golf year round. My suggestion(s) are, frist and foremost, have good rain gear and a unbrella isn't a bad idea either. Already suggested are rain gloves which I 2nd.

IMO, whats nice about golfing in rainy weather is it pretty much weeds out the fair weather ppl. So pretty much the only ppl out there are the ones who love the game. Makes for some really good groups. Personally I really don't care what their abilities are as long as they have a good atittude, which to me makes a lot of difference. Play well and enjoy your round

I see your from NYC so I feel your pain.I played Bethpage Red on Friday morn. in first group-5:56 am and it was drizzleing when we started and only got worse.Played the first 10 then cut over to 14 and played the rest of the way in.I brought the wifes speed cart and mounted the umbrella so it was fairly comfortable but the guys they hooked me up with were S L O W.I mean like a 4 hour pace for the first group is not good so I bailed.

I play in the rain quite a bit. I always like it because it's a challenge (plus the courses can be pretty empty at times). As others have said, it's important to have 'good' rain gear. In my bag I always carry rain pants, a short sleeve rain jacket and my rain proof bucket hat. However, if I know it's going to rain I take my Footjoy rain pants and jacket with me as they are better than the stuff I carry in my bag. The bucket hat really helps because it keeps the rain from running down your back. And make sure to have good waterproof shoes as playing with wet shoes can be miserable. Also, dress right beside the water proofs. Less cotton is better so that if you do get a little wet through your gear you don't end up uncomfortable. I usually wear a wicking golf shirt and socks to help keep me comfortable.

Other things to have are extra towels, an umbrella (although I almost never use mine), rain gloves (I carry them but seldom use them) and rain proof cover for your bag. And it should also be aware that very few bags are really waterproof so take anything you do not want to get wet out of your bag and leave in car.

Playing in the rain also forces so changes in your game. The ball tends to fly less distance and of course roll will be practically nil, so take an extra club (or two) and swing a little easier. The other key (and maybe most important key for bad weather golf) is stay patient and don't let the weather get to you. One of the things that made Tom Watson such a good bad weather golfer was that he stayed patient and took what the course gave him. Have fun with it.

One cool thing about playing in the rain is how much the ball reacts on the greens when the conditions reach that point where everything is softened up a bit but not yet mussy.

Suddenly duffers are making cool shots like short chips that one hop and stop dead, or wedge shots that one hop, hover in place for and instant then come zipping back.

I know the pros do this all the time and so by inference maybe the low handicappers do too but I only see this when it rains.

What I find more annoying than steady rain is when it rains, clears, rains, clears, rains, ... then it suit up, strip down, suit up ... and even worse if it's August in Benton KY!

I always try to play when the weather is bad. That way, if I'm playing in a tournament and the weather is really bad, I have an advantage because I have practice playing in it. I even go so far as to play without rain gear, umbrellas or gloves. I want the worst possible conditions.. slick grips, soaking wet, mud on the ball, frogs looking for cover.

My swing thoughts:

- Negative thinking hurts more than negative swinging.
- I let my swing balance me.
- Full extension back and through to the target. - I swing under not around my body. - My club must not twist in my swing. - Keep a soft left knee

    • I get kidney stones. So 100 oz of water every day. Some nights I drink 32oz between midnight and 6 Am. Which means I dont sleep much.
    • 46 (9 over) Short game and putts were awful!
    • 46+40 for an 86. I just need to play 9 holes on the range before each round. 🤣🤣🤣
    • I don’t measure my intake either. I generally have a black coffee, a bottle of soda, some sweet tea at home, and anything in between is water. An ice cold bottle of water is one of my favorite things. It feels like an immediate refresher for my body. I’ll admit that I need to drink a little more though.
    • For such a nice membership, there have been some bad incidents in the past few years.  We had someone voted out a couple of years ago over something he did and he harassed the board members for three months until he moved out of the area.   Generally they’ve tried to do things like tournament handicaps and identify certain people who they know should be lower and adjust it somehow.  I can understand not wanting to go thru something like the guy who was voted out again i emailed the pro who forwarded it to the handicap committee.  They are going to see what can be done.  I walked someone thru what happened and they are going to nudge him to post the score from the match and see what he does.  Since he didn’t put anything in the electronic scoring past 13, based on how he played 14 and 15 plus having to take bogey on 16-18 for after he left, he should post 83.  We’ll see if it’s even higher,   Since he was really even thru 13, then doubled 14 and parred 15 my guess is he really shot 75 being generous and giving him 2 pars and a bogey on the three holes he didn’t play.    i shot 88, getting 16 shots for my course handicap which is net even and I lost on 13.  We do brackets where handicaps should be within 4-5 of each other.  Most matches only have 1-2 shots as a difference between players  neither of us posted the score yet.  There was something in the match play rules about whether or not to post your score.  I couldn’t remember if we were supposed to or not.  I don’t think he was going to post that, because even with his inflated score it would be the lowest score in his recent 20. Lucky I didn’t because they want to see what he does post and they don’t want me posting so he can try to calibrate his score.
