Anyone get headaches after a round?

I think this is more than coincidence because it's happened several times. I played a pitch & putt with my daughter today, and had a sore neck & headache (shoulders, neck & back of head) afterwards.

I'm wondering if it's the sunlight (eye strain?), the exercise (yea, I need to get back in shape), carrying the bag (I've got an Izzo double shoulder strap model, so I wouldn't think so), chemicals on the course, or maybe just all the rotation & forces that my neck takes during a round.

It's possible that it's my swing, but I don't seem to notice this as often when I go to a driving range.

I'm generally better the next day, and it doesn't happen all the time, but I certainly hope it's not related to any course pesticides or fertilizers. For what it's worth, when I worked on my cousin's farm, I didn't have any problems with what was sprayed out there that I can remember. Heck *I* sprayed 400 gallons of roundup one day with no ill effects.

Any thoughts (besides the obvious "you're a hypochondriac, get over it!!") are much appreciated,

Re: Anyone get headaches after a round?

im a headache guy too

Drink lots of water! In fact I have found recently that gatorade prevents the dehydration headache along with 2 bottles of water.

NO BEER

This will help you I hope.

Re: Anyone get headaches after a round?

What they said! Headaches have plagued me. Dehydration has been a common cause, but I do also suffer from exertion headaches. A chiropractor has taken care of that. These headaches would come on suddenly, when exerting myself, such as when lifting weights. It's not too big of a stretch to believe that a golf swing could trigger it.

Re: Anyone get headaches after a round?

I'm going to echo dehydration. In summers, I drink at least 100 oz of water on the course. When I don't, I feel it - in the form of a headache and in the form of my score.

Re: Anyone get headaches after a round?

If you aren't used to walking it could be just the lifting or your bag. If you only have or use one strap that can be an issue too. A dual strap backpack type harness is best for walkers who don't use a push/pull cart. Maybe yours is too low or too high. Right above the butt seems to be the ideal point.

I'd look at dehydration as well. Once it hits the 70's I usually go through three 16 oz bottles of water and 32 oz of gatorade and I usually drink water beforehand. Get into the 80's and 90's and it's 4 water bottles, gatorade and often something at the turn as well.

Re: Anyone get headaches after a round?

Hydration fatigue, its amazing how much not drinking enough fluids will affect you.

Also get some sun glasses, I cant imagine playing golf with out them.

Make sure you are streching too, strain on your neck muscle can cause some serious headaches, I pulled a muscle in the back of my neck once. Every time i coughed or what have you it felt like someone was litery inside my head with a hammer trying to get out, which is also the last time i shoulder shruged 600lbs, stupid.

Re: Anyone get headaches after a round?

Most headaches I get after a round are caused by my driving, my long irons, my chipping and my putting .... other than that I'm fine!!!

All kidding aside, everyone else has hit it on the nose ... water, water, water ...

Re: Anyone get headaches after a round?

Drink lots of water, and I also make sure to wear sunglasses. The constant squinting I do when not wearing glasses contributes to the occasional headache, but I usually get them the next morning after a long day in the sun, if they happen.

Re: Anyone get headaches after a round?

I get headaches all the time. I get them in the afternoon at work. For me I think it is all the coffee I drink in the morning and stress. I get them golfing too but I have no idea why.

Re: Anyone get headaches after a round?

Thanks everyone! I think it had a lot to do with squinting, and carrying the bag, and maybe not stretching for me.

Good to know I'm not alone, and it's probably not the chemicals.

Cheers,

I almost always get a headache but this formula seems to work. I drink a gatorade and about 5 bottles of water.

Re: Anyone get headaches after a round?

I get headaches related to my neck, even when I'm at the range after hitting 20 balls, start to get a headache... can usually prevent it by stretching and getting loose before swinging.

Re: Anyone get headaches after a round?

Make sure you drink lots of water/gatorade or something of that nature. Most likely it's you're dehydrated. It's possible there's something out there that you're allergic to, but if you get them after you're done I doubt it.
