So for my college graduation present my parents agreed to help pay for a new set of clubs. After acting like a kid in a candy store for 2 weeks at Golf Galaxy/Golfsmith I had narrowed which clubs I wanted and purchased them. The only club I am currently stuck on is a 3W. I have narrowed it down to either a Ping G10 or a Titleist 909 F2 . At my local golf galaxy I found both of them, very lightly used, with stiff shafts for around $100. I am leaning more towards the Titleist, but am open to people's opinions/experiences with either of these clubs. Thank you for your assistance!

I don't mean to hijack your thread, but I wonder what people think about the Callaway FT Neutral 3 wood 15*. I just picked up a similar model to what you want (stiff shaft, $100) so I was wondering how they compare.

What are you looking for specifically in a 3 wood? Both 3 woods are on Golf Digest's 2009 Hot list for fairway woods: http://www.golfdigest.com/equipment/...?currentPage=1 Ping G10:
Ping G10 STREET PRICE: $220 WEBSITE: pinggolf.com LOFTS/BOUNCE: 14, 15.5, 17, 18.5, 21.5, 24.5; draw: 15.5, 17, 18.5, 21.5 TECH TALK: Weight taken from the crown, face and hosel is redeployed in an internal weight pad that positions the CG in an optimal location to increase ball speed and reduce spin. A shallow face and increased heel-to-toe length provide a larger effective hitting area and promote forgiveness. PLAYER COMMENTS: (M) "Just perfect. It's what a fairway wood should look like." ... (L) "After having the same fairway wood for five years, I have a new date. Send me an invoice. This thing is amazing." ... (T) "A great, solid club. Hard to mis-hit." ... (M) "Came off the face with a lot of heat." HOT: Ping has covered all areas technologically and otherwise, including a 17-degree 4-wood with a 43-inch shaft for players who need more loft than a 3-wood offers. NOT: The shallow face requires an adjustment for those who like a 3-wood as a backup driver.

Titleist 909 F2:

TITLEIST 909F2/F3 STREET PRICE: $200 WEBSITE: titleist.com LOFTS: F2: 13.5, 15.5, 18.5; F3: 13, 15, 18 TECH TALK: These are modestly different designs that accommodate the needs of different players. F2 lofts are a half-degree higher, and the CG is lower to produce a higher launch angle. Also, its face is longer and wider. The F3 is designed to produce a lower, boring trajectory, and its face is smaller and deeper. Each comes with a sole weight screw to customize swingweight. PLAYER COMMENTS: (L) "Has that 'wow' factor." ... (T) "Attention to detail everywhere." ... (M) "It feels great and gets the ball up nicely." ... (M) "I've always been intimidated by Titleist, but the company has made a move toward players like me." HOT: It has the traditional look that everyone likes. Those who think Titleist targets only better players need to reconsider, given efforts here. NOT: Where's the 21-degree 7-wood that some middle-handicappers would want?

PS Congratulations on your graduation!

I need more control. I am a pretty big hitter, and would gladly choose a club that is forgiving over another that will add 10 yards to my ball. I sacrificed the distance I was getting with my dad's Burner for the control I found in the Nike Sumo. I only lost a few yards, but everything I hit with the Sumo is straight, with a fewer number of slices, which only happens when I rush myself and resort to some of my old bad habits. I have found the Ping to be slightly more forgiving than the Titleist, but I like the feel/look of the 909 whenever I am standing over the ball. If it matters the Ping also has a Fujikura shaft. How much does a different shaft benefit clubs such as these?
Thank you for the congratulations... it is definitely nice that the biggest decision in my life right now is what 3W I want to buy.
In regards to the Callaway - I hit that thing as well (remember: kid in a candy store), I loved the distance I was getting with those clubs, but for some reason they just felt awkward when I was hitting them. I prefer to feel as comfortable as possible and even though I could have eventually enjoyed them as much as my Sumo + whatever 3W I pick, I shied away from them for that reason.

I have looked everywhere for these. I went to many different stores and every place was out. They also checked online for me and said the stores in the area are also out. I guess since it isn't made anymore and is still so popular that demand simply eliminated them from my area. Maybe I should go check out Dicks/Sports Authority to see if they have them.

I may check that out.

On a side note: where are you from in St. Louis? I went to school up there even though I am from TX.

If it were me, whichever has the lowest profile/best off the turf. You can hit them all off a tee, but which will help you from the thin lies, like a second shot on a par 5.

Personally......I'd go with the Titleist.

Nothing wrong with the G10 woods....I've had a G10 4wood and 7wood and they were fine....but my opinion is the Titleist is the better stick.

Id go with titleist aslo. But im biased, ive been using their equipment since ive been playing golf. You might aslo consider one of their older models like the 975F. It will be cheaper and performs just as well as their newer models. I just switched back one myself.

I have the g10 sitting in my garage. I hate the sound of the thing and the shaft has no feel. It has the Blue Pro launch stiff. I can hit my 5W below farther so I don't carry it.

I prefer the Titleist because of the sound and feel. I have the 909D2 driver and I am sold on their equipment. My next purchase will be the 3w.

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

You will NOT believe this, but after playing golf for more years than I want to admit, and trying every possible 3-wood, I'm here to tell you there is a product out there that is absolutely KILLER: very forgiving, and the longest I've ever hit! They came out in 2007, and you can bet them now for about $40-80!

The titanium face is combo-brazed to the stainless head, therefore saving much weight over the normal welding process. This weight is then transferred to the back/bottom of the head, resulting in an exceptionally forgiving, HOT 3-wood! The reason Tour Edge claims their woods are 20 yards farther is they copied the combo brazing process (and it's true, they do go farther).

You don't have to believe me, but if you're smart you'll check into the Adams Insight BTY or BUL woods. They're still selling new ones on eBay. I bought a new 3-wood(a 12.5-degree strong one!), for $79, and a 5-wood demo (standard loft of 18-degrees) for $29!
And to top it off, they both come with fantastic magnetic headcovers.

That's my opinion. You asked for recommendations; I gave it to you.

What do you guys think about the Adams Speedline 3 Hybrid-Fairway Wood? Love my Adams 3 and 4 hybrids and would assume I would feel the same for their hybrid-fairway wood but didnt know if any of you have tried it out?

I am replying to the notice, "Attention dreamsmith":

I'm confused as to this notice. Do you have the right person? I have NO idea what you're talking about! I NEVER posted anything about purchasing clubs from a site that might be counterfeit, or whatever. In fact, I just bought: a new TM R9 460, Adams Insight 3- and 5- woods, and Mizuno MP-52 irons from The PGA Superstore here in Chandler, Arizona!

You think YOU'RE annoyed?? I'M annoyed, because I'm not the guy you're talking about!!! Is there another 'dreamsmith'? And if not, why don't you put your brain in gear before opening your mouth?

How much hype is there with the men’s compared to the women’s? I bet you can rattle off several big names in women’s gymnastics and only a handful of men. Women’s tennis …same thing. And sure enough, their purses are the same. However, WNBA, awful…LPGA, not near as much interest than PGA. Don’t think it’s really that complicated IMO.
