I saw a post here where we had a guy smack his 3 wood 270 yrds ( on average so for every shot less than 240 he was hitting one 300 yrdr ) LOL, I fear an infection of Tigeritis. Now i don't pretend to be a smoker with the driver but I had my swing timed at just over 105 so I'm not slow either but I can only muster up 230 carry ( and I'm hitting pretty much close to the sweet spot most of the time ) Also, I see 15+ handicappers talk of shaping the ball left and right, hitting high spinning 8 irons or low running jobs as required. In my case I just hit the ball towards the hole, and go up to it and hit it again till it drops in. Have I got too simplistic a view on this game?
One more thing, any one ever get stuck behind a golfer on a par 5 who just smacked his drive 200 and lies 350 off the green and waits for the green to clear before taking their second shot because they somehow think they can hit a 3 wood over 300 even though they could only hit a teed up golf ball a merge 200.

How is your swing speed 105 and you only get 230 yards of carry? I remember my Dad's is about 99 and he got 229 yards carry on the thing at Golf Smith.

Comparing apples to oranges esp since swing speed is only one variable of carry distance. Plus I don't put any weight into what a launch monitor tells me.

I'm with ya here. I think the average golfer should keep it simple. I'm like you, I just try to hit it straight most of the time. I'm not near good enough to worry about shaping the ball. Just add's to much to my already overtaxed brain.

Most people do over estimate their yardages. Ego I guess? Not saying there's not some long ballers here, but I'll bet there's fewer than claimed.

I'm playing with 9.5 Deg loft so that would take away some carry distance. However don't be fooled into thinking those launch monitors in Golf stores are completely accurate. In American Golf the dude there was telling me the new Taylormade was carrying over 280. He seemed surprised when I told him that from my GPS and physically stepping the distance that on the course I was only getting in or around 230 yrds with last years Burner but tried to tell me it was the new improved club. With that I went out to the car for my old club I proceeded to smack it over 280 ( further than the new model as I had a lower kick shaft on my own one ) That put an end to any new club purchasing. It is from simulators like this that guys contract Tigeritis. They're first experience with a club is on a simulator which with out question bloats results. Esp the ones in golf stores. PS, I had my swing speed verified by the club pro with a radar thingy

hahaha!!!!! anyways.....yes there is much more to distance than ur swing speed assuming the launch monitors are somewhat close (as we have no other way of measuring swing speed for this conversation) - i swing between 103-108mph drive the ball somewhere between 255-275 or so (when I had my GPS, it was measured w this device, which I assume it somewhat accurate) i am optimistic as well, and yes it can vary depending on 100 different things 230 could seem light for your ss, but who knows no way you can actually tell what you carried measuring w a GPS, unless your ball comes to a stop from your drive how do you know exactly where your ball landed before roll? is that divot really yours???? but this can be argued both ways maybe dude CAN hit the 3ws that far???? i dunno, u dunno...why? cause its the internet!! hahha!!!!! i try to take everything w a grain if salt here

hahaha!!!!!

Maybe he can consistently carry a hazard at 230 yards. Personally, I carry my fairway hybrid a bit farther than my driver, which I hit quite low relatively speaking.

Not sure what to tell ya my man, but most people are full of shit. Inflated distances aside (I think we are all aware that the internet adds 15-25 yards per club) I agree about the shot shaping. I'm amazed at how many people on the internet can hit draws/fades at will, with any club. I'm still not comfortable hitting a fade with certain clubs, and my draws, well, sometimes they don't draw. So maybe, like you, I'm taking the wrong approach to this game.
