Let the records show that there was a regular PGA Tour event this weekend: the Wyndham Championship, or the GGO as a lot of old-timers remember it. Rain suspended play each of the first three days, but they managed to get all four rounds in. In the end, Ryan Moore—2004 Everything-Amateur Champion and the hippest dresser on tour—finally won his first pro tournament in a playoff against Jason Bohn and Baby Walrus (a.k.a. Kevin Stadler). I've always liked Ryan Moore, if just for the fact that he's the only golfer I know of who sports a beard, and it's good to see that he just may be getting his talents together.

I don't recall what tournament it was earlier this year but he was in the lead for a round or two. I really like his style of play. Congrats to him for winning this weekend.

He played well and deserved to win. Hopefully, he will use a portion of his earnings to buy the proper size shirts/pants. Evidently he is from the Mickelson school of thought....wear a Smedium when you need an XL. Other than that...congrats, Ryan on a well deserved win.

Anyone have any idea why he refuses to wear any logos? I mean its not like he's taking a stand against world hunger or something. He doesn't seem to really care about his appearance; it looked to me like he was wearing a 15 year old Wal*Mart brand polo he picked up at Goodwill. I know a bunch of guys look like Winston Cup cars out there but is it really worth throwing away all that money? I am on TV for my job sometimes and if someone paid me to wear a logo and I could get away with it I'd do it.

If he really wanted to do something worthwhile why not get some sponsors and donate all the money to charity?

* Edit: For all I know he is wearing designer clothing but I know his shirt doesn't look right.

I've been noticing Moore a lot this year and paying attention to what he's been doing. He seems very consistent - always seems to play well - not a lot of MCs. He played great at Bethpage - and he bombs the ball for a smaller guy (5'9, about 170).

Ryan is from the northwest, Seattle area I believe. I think his "look" is that of his generation in the northwest - comfortable clothes and doesn't give a crap what anyone thinks. He seems like a simple guy, doesn't want to deal with a lot of corporate bullshit and is happy making really good money off his winnings. I bet he has a bit of a "I'm not selling out" side to him - as he looks like a guy that might enjoy a Phish show once in a while.

He has the demeanor and the game to win a lot of tournaments.

I don't know...I didn't get a good look at what irons he was playing this weekend. PING irons are pretty distinctive, so it would be easy to find out if he is still sponsored by them.

Haha, I kind of like that attitude. To be honest, I never noticed, but I think it's cool if he doesn't want another company to pick his clothes for him. It seems like it would be tough to pass up the extra money, but I think it's kind of strange just how carefully put together everybody's outfits are on the PGA Tour. Some of the players seem to treat it like a fashion show or something, haha. I'm all for the "not giving a crap what anyone thinks" attitude.

Yup....he was beat by a fuzzy fella wearing little boy pants, stubby hat and a tight shirt.

Actually, El Nino's putter beat him..............again. Congrats to Ryan Moore for the victory. He's a different sort....don't mind that....I also really like the fact that another win is made by a non cookie-cutter swing.

I think it was his over-rated ballstriking. He was missing greens before he was missing the five-footers for par.

Yep, but if he'd held it together when he was at -17 he wouldn't have had to pull off the miracle shot just for a chance to playoff. Bummer, but he had more than a fair shot at it without the theatrics.

Congrats to Ryan Moore and his first win.

Seriously.. Win or Lose... Sergio Garcia shot 67, 64, 64, 70....and missed a playoff literally by one inch....

man, there are just too many Sergio haters...

I was actually happy to see him not using the belly putter. He was ballstriking wonderfully and rolling it nicely throughout the tournament. He seemed to get tentative with every club on the back nine and came up short, but I thought he played great...Moore just played better and deserved to win.

I didnt think it would take this long actually..but its easy for us to criticize and play monday morning quarterback. It's tough to win on the Tour and especially tough to win majors. Remember Ryan Moore won literally everything coming into the tour years ago from the NCAA championship, Western AM to the US AM. He was due and Im very happy for the guy. He can really roll the rock and has control of his unorthodox swing. I think Moore has many more coming too.

You dont think Sergio is a good ballstriker? I give you that he chocked it away but that is usually the best part of his game. no?

He is a terrible putter though

    • Day 12: Same as last couple days, but focus was on recentering aspect of flow. When I recenter earlier I make decent contact most swings but if I recenter late or not at all it’s a roll of the dice.
    • A couple of things.  Some of the clubs in your bag should be dropped immediately.  A 2-iron for example with what obviously seems to be a lower swing speed or possibly not great swing yet is a definite no-no.  To be hitting that 120-140 yards, which I assume includes run, is a sign that you are not getting the ball airborne at the correct angle to maximise distance.  The reason your 3 and 5 hybrid are going the same distance is that your launch angle is better with the 5.  Loft is your friend. Ideally I would suggest going to a golf or sporting store where you can hit golf balls on a simulator without being disturbed to understand your club carry distances and hopefully swing speed.  With that information we can definitely guide you better.
    • Let us be clear, unless you have proof of cheating, you just sound like a case of sour grapes.  In our club we have a guy who won club titles for many years.  Yes, he was a low single digit handicapper, but there have been quite a few others who played at his level.  Yet his mental strength and experience helped him win in many years when he shouldn't have.  Did he sandbag.  DEFINITELY NOT.  Did he just minimize his mistakes and pull out shots as and when needed.  Definitely.
    • Day 111 - Worked on my grip and higher hands in the backswing. Full swings with the PRGR.
    • First off please forgive me if this is not a proper post or not in the proper location, still learning the ropes around here. Second, it's important that I mention I am very new to the game with only about 10 rounds of golf under my belt, most being 9 holes. Only this year have I started playing 18. That being said, I am hooked, love the game and am very eager to learn and improve. To give you an idea of my skill, the last 2 18 rounds I played were 110 and 105. Not great at all, however I am slowly improving as I learn. Had been having bad slicing issues with the driver and hybrids but after playing some more and hitting the range, I've been able to improve on that quite a bit and have been hitting more straight on average. Irons have always come easier to me as far as hitting straight for some reason. Wedges have needed a lot of improvement, but I practice chipping about 20-30 mins about 3-5 times a week and that's helped a lot. Today I went to the range and started to note down some distance data, mind you I am averaging the distances based off my best guess compared to the distance markers on the range. I do not currently own a range finder or tracker. From reading some similar posts I do understand that filling gaps is ideal, but I am having a some issues figuring out those gaps and understanding which clubs to keep and remove as some gaps are minimal between clubs. Below is an image of the chart I put together showing the clubs and average distances I've been hitting and power applied. For some reason I am hitting my hybrids around the same distances and I am not sure why. Wondering if one of them should be removed. I didn't notice a huge loft difference either. The irons I have are hand me downs from my grandfather and after playing with them a bit, I feel like they're just not giving me what could potentially be there. The feel is a bit hard/harsh and underwhelming if that makes sense and I can't seem to get decent distances from them. Wondering if I should be looking to invest in some more updated irons and if those should be muscle backs or cavity backs? My knowledge here is minimal. I have never played with modern fairway woods, only the classic clubs that are actually wood and much smaller than modern clubs. I recently removed the 4 and 5 woods from my bag as I was never using them and I don't hit them very well or very far. Wondering if I should look into some more modern fairway wood options? I appreciate any feedback or advice anyone is willing to give, please forgive my lack of knowledge. I am eager to learn! Thank you.
