I have been in the middle of writing a pretty lengthy memorandum in support of a motion for summary judgment for class and haven't haven't pulled out my putter for the last week. When I woke up yesterday I thought it would be a great idea to putt a bit just to cool the nerves. I took off my headcover and discovered rust on my Cameron. There is no way for me to describe in words how depressed I am.

With that said, I am thinking that perhaps it is time for me to find another putter. I don't know if I will actually switch away from Scotty but I am seriously considering getting a Nike Method. I am curious if I am the only person that is considering this or am I totally nuts?

It appears that all that study may have inadvertantly affected your judgement. Can you polish the Cameron and bring it shining back into your life?

Seriously though, I am not aware of the Nike Method's performance but given putters are so personal it really depends on how you feel about it. Don't think I would be switching though. Mind you there appears to be a significant difference in our handicaps so you may need a grain of salt with those comments.

I had a thread on this putter about a month ago. I am thinking about getting it the only problem is I don't want to wait until Feburary. I probably will get it though judging on the reviews from Paul Casey and Stewart Cink. Its going to be a tough wait.

i think they're acctually saying since the rust doesn't affect the playability of the putter he should buff it up and clean the rust off and keep trucking with his current putter.

Clean that baby up to a nice shiny polish and you'll feel better, guarantee it! Maybe do a custom paintfill or stamp it, something like that. A change may be what you need. It's how I cope with my club ho'ing obsession. I don't think a switch of putters is the answer, if anything, a temporary one.

But who knows, maybe you'll knock everything in with the Method.

Are you nuts? Well, ummm...

To be honest, I considered for a short while to get one of the limited edition models, even though I've been drooling over a SC Red X for a VERY long time. I decided against spending that much ($500 for the LE) for now, but I still keep looking back to it. Two Major wins by two first time winners in it's first full year of existence says to me that at the very least, they must have something going right. Simply put, no, you're not the only one considering it

What part of

"I'd" didn't you understand? And I'd recommend cleaning up your $300 Scotty regardless of whether you now have your heart set on something else. Especially since rust seems to be the only issue, not actual putting problems.

Obviously the Scotty is a piece of rusty junk and you should get rid of it, and I'll step up and offer to take it off your hands - I'll even pay the shipping so you don't have to pay anything to dispose of this trash.

I use a Nike Putter currently and it really tags the ball. I barely tap it and the ball goes quite a ways. Face feels really hot, so I definitely have my eye on the method but not sure about the price. I still cant hit a putt with my new putter but I'm still adjusting, I should invest in a putting lesson vs the method.

Anyway, to answer your question. If your cameron is played out, yeah go and get your hands on a method. I am really glad they went with an old blade style and gave it some upgrades, I'd really like to see how I putt with one. I'm not saying to just go out and get it, but certainly it should be on your must-try list if youre in the market for a new putter.

Your totally nuts!

My Cameron also had small rust spots after playing two days in the rain. I will admit I was bummed at first, but I used a very, very fine wool pad, removed the rust and sprayed the putter with WD40. After letting it set for a few minutes I wipped it down, almost as good as new, but with a little character. Now after a round I will leave the headcover off to make sure it is dry and after 3 or 4 rounds, I will spray it with WD40, wipe it down. I have not had anymore problems, don't give up on the Cameron!!!!

Yeah, wanna make 14 dollars the hard way?

next time can you spray it with WD-40 or spam before you put the putter away.

Switching from the Cameron is a good ideal and this might be the right opportunity, I switch from putter to putter and always go back to my favorite and old reliable. Dancing with a different girl justs adds variety to your life and putting.

Comical. Just send me your address. Let me send you my custom Pro Platinum Plus Scotty Cameron because it has a little bit of rust on it.

The point isn't that I feel like my putter is a piece of junk but it just got me thinking about retiring the putter. I have used it since 2000 and am just exploring my options. If I were to narrow my choices right now it would be between the new Cameron Monterey or a Method 001. As I said above, huge fan of the Newport style it is just a question about whether I will change from Scotty to something else.

Agreed...when my putting seems to go south, I like to change up the putter until I get back to where I am sinking and give ol'faithful another go. But on the other hand, it if ain't broke, don't fix it. Sounds like there are some pretty easy suggestions as to how to fix your SC.

Do you like the "honey-dipped" color of the Monterey? I love the shape and style of the head, just the color turns me off of it a little bit. I love that "Charcoal Mist" color of the Circa '62, and if the Cali line was available with that finish, it might break my obsession with the Red X.

Still somehow drawn to the Method for some weird reason though...

i dont see why everyone likes the red x.. for some reason, i think its ugly and tacky looking.. but i guess to each his own.

I was initially drawn to it just because of it's appearance. I'm a big fan of Oakley products, and the Red X reminded me of something Oakley would make. Then I tried it out at a shop a few times, and I loved the way it felt and lined up.
