Not yet, but I want to. I almost feel like I owe it to James Cameron after the original Terminator movies. Loved T1 and T2. I've read really great things about Avatar though, might have to check it out this weekend!

How was the 3-D? I saw it in 2-D. I thought the 3-D might take away from the movie. Overall I loved the movie, it kept you interested the whole way through the movie. The visuals were incredible!!

3D is the way to go. Went Sunday night and I really liked the female lead wow! Incredible visuals too, the flying scenes are great. I was a little dissapointed in the simplistic idiotic greed displayed by humans in general. I think if you spend so many millions of dollars for visuals you could at least create a complex villan(s) to play opposite your heros. But that's just the part of me that loves Robert Ludlum type type complexity in plots. Anyway I recommend this movie to SciFi buffs

It ain't bragging if you can do it.

My brother-in-law spent several months in New Zealand this year as one of the lead CGI guys on this project so it is good to hear everyone (at least from what I've heard) enjoys the visuals!

Did the final scene and he even got direct praise from Cameron himself!

The 3-D depends on how good the projectionist team are. Apparently there is some new projection technology that helps with the 3-D. One review I read said that the 3-D wasn't effective at all so Fox flew a projectionist out to them for a second attempt and it was done better. Given that most movie theatre workers appear to be teenagers earning $10/hr I wouldn't have huge hopes for the 3-D.

Personally I didn't think the 3-D blew me away, it was reasonably good and worth paying the extra couple of bucks for but it wasn't the immersed experience I've had in some 3-D films. It added some more relief to the characters and the background though.

Visuals were fantastic. It was weird seeing Lang without a beard, although that wasn't a special effect. The only major disappointment was that Zoe Saldana didn't get any camera time.

I'm beginning to feel as if I'm the only person who doesn't care about this movie at all.

I'm a geek, but I've never cared for Star Wars or Star Trek. Nor this one. Don't care about the Hobbit or the Lord of the Rings or any of those things. I do like the scientific thriller types, though. Liked Fifth Element too. I dunno, I like to see people in movies, unless it's a Pixar flick, I suppose. Not mythical stuff.

I will say the people who have seen it are really impressed. Maybe I'll get it on Blu-Ray through Netflix some day.

In NYC, an adult ticket costs $16.50 for the 3D version. $4 extra for glasses and you were encouraged to give the glasses back via a recycle box.

When I watched "Up", the glasses cost $2 extra, maybe less.

Maybe the surcharge is cheaper elsewhere, but I felt a tad bilked. I bet the gross will have something to do with the exorbitant "cost" of the glasses.

The 3D and the effects were great. Acting and writing was okay. Nice to see Weaver from Aliens, but she didn't get much screen time. The storyline was, well, politically naive and simplistic. I think the best feature of the film is the total immersion into another world. It's like Second Life, on some alien planet.

I prefer "Up in the Air", despite the not so happy flavor of it.

3D movies make me barf - literally, it's a vision problem. I might check it out when my wife inevitably buys it on DVD. The 3D jumping around and CGI foliage in the previews is pretty much lost on me, so it's hard to get an idea of the whole movie from the previews.

I haven't been a James Cameron since he crapped out Titanic (too sappy and went on forever - geared for 14 year old girls), but the T series is noteworthy.

I think it's a good movie, I really liked the love story that the movie shows, cause you are able to see how that relationship develops, but it's quite long for me, in the middle of the movie I was falling asleep hehe.

Cheers!

Not much into sci-fi at all but me and the wife thoroughly enjoyed the 3-D showing of Avatar last night. It cost us $27 for the two of us here in Virginia. Felt it was well worth it.

paid $30 for 2 in IMAX 3D and it was enjoyable. Great effects... OK plot, as others have said, the world was very impressive, but the plot was a little cliche. It is worth seeing in 3D if you can.

question: anyone know how regular 3D differs from IMAX 3D... this was the first 3D movie I've seen in a long time and it seems like the technology is getting much better.

The past few days, I've been wondering what sorts of clubs and shafts we could make from unobtainium. Not an active thing, but the thought came to mind a few times.

In NYC, an adult ticket costs $16.50 for the 3D version. $4 extra for glasses and you were encouraged to give the glasses back via a recycle box.

With prices like that, I suspect it costs $5 to sneak in for free.

I didnt really like it too much. It had a really simple and predictable plot. The visuals and effects were cool for awhile but wernt enough to make up for a lame story. Plus it was 3 hours long which is only a positive if its a great movies, which avatar definantly wasnt. Also, the political adgenda was pretty annoying too. It was extremely anti military, and they definantly went overboard with the mother earth goddess thing.

Overall: Stupid plot, cool effects, way too long and way too politically charged.
