I'm looking to replace my current 18 degree nike sq hybrid. I hit it ok but it isn't the most forgiving or easiest hybrid to hit and I have never felt comfortable with it when addressing the ball. My shortlist is (in order):
TM rescue '09 - non tp, way overpriced,
Titleist 909 h - this looks sweet but I never liked the 585h, don't know how different it is to that,
Cleveland Hibore XLS - I'm concerned the 'extra offset' will cause me to hook this one
Cleveland Launcher,
Cobra Baffler TWS,
Adams Idea Pro/Gold
Not a very 'shortlist' but any comments very welcome.

I like smaller heads... love my Adams. Haven't ever hit a hybrid I like as much as the ones I have. Nickent were real close though... can't remember if it was a 2DX or 3DX.

Also, a fan of the Cobra, never hit the TWS, but I liked the DWS.
My Clubs: Callaway FT-i Tour LCG 9.5° w/ Matrix Ozik Xcon 6 stiff; Sonartec GS Tour 14° w/ Graphite Design Red Ice 70 stiff; Adams Idea Pro 2h(18°) & 3h(20°) w/ Aldila VS Proto 80 stiff; Adams Idea Pro Forged 4-PW w/ TT Black Gold stiff; Cleveland CG12 DSG RTG 52°-10° & 58°-10°; Odyssey...

I just recently got the titleist 909 and absolutly love it so far but i couldnt tell you the difference between it an the 585. I would also recomend the cobra when i hit it it felt very solid as well.

I demo'ed the 909h today (19 degree diamana). This is way better than the old 585. It felt great, gave a nice flight and was more forgiving than I expected. I have ruled out all the other clubs on my shortlist apart from the Taylor made rescue. Anybodies opinions on the '09 version very welcome.

IMO the 909H is much better than the 585... It took me a couple of rounds to get used to them but once I did I haven't looked back, I have more confidence in those clubs than any other club in my bag.

I hit the last two on your list last night, Cobra and Adams. I liked the looks of the Cobra better but I seemed to hit the Adams more consistently. My liste is narrowed down to Ping G-10, Bobby Jones, or a used Cally Steelhead III/+.

My 3 favorites are the Adams, Hibore and Cobra, in that order. I don't really like TM's new hybrids and I've never liked any of Titleist's. Haven't hit the 909 though, seems like some folks like it more than the older models.

Interesting thread in that I'm considering replacing my 05 TM Rescue Duels. I have a 19* and 22*. The Adams seem to always get good reviews. ST did a review on the Ping G15 recently.

My dad has two of the Bobby Jones and loves them. All though he's not one to try a lot of different equipment.

I tried and disliked the Cobra Bafflers, Mizzy MX950, CLK's, and Taylormade rescues before I tried the Admas Pro Gold. I haven't hit another since the Pro Golds. They are fantastic for me. All the others I tried were serious hook makers, and the Adams just wants to get out there straight. Mine have the Matrix shafts. I've heard the Javelin shafts on those clubs were not as nice. I can't speak firsthand on that though. I keep hearing great things about the A7, but I'm so happy with my Golds, I don't even feel like I want to try them.

I think there are a lot of nice choices out there. I play CLK Hi Flis that are a few years old, picked up used. I messed around lately trying to find something I like better. I actually bought a 909H, I've had an Idea Pro, a couple Nickent 3DX, and a Taylormade Rescue Mid. Also hit a Baffler TWS and Cleveland DST extensively at the range. Honestly, they all had some nice points to them, but in the end I stayed with my Mizunos as the shafts I've installed in them seem to make them work best for me. Go hit them all and figure out what you like

Take a look at the TM Raylors. I remember when the first-generation Raylors came out years ago, the boat-v sole. Rarely found any of the old Raylors in used club bins.

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

I recently got the 3 and 4 Callaway FT hybrids from Callaway Preowned. You can get a "like new" (brand new) club for $100 on that site. That is half what they sell for in golf shops and online. These are amazing clubs man. Take a look.

i would suggest the 909 H because it's forgiving enough and the open clubface prevents hooking, a problem i always have with hybrids. Love its workability and how easy it is to hit out of the rough or as my second shot to par 5s. I'll finally purchase one in a couple of months when i get custom fit.

The 909H is an improvement over the 585 in terms of ease of use, IMO. I love the sleeker and more shallow set up of the club. Admittedly though, the 585 was more playable and had a little better feel. But i still think overall its the best players hybrid out there. The tour edge hybrids are not bad, either. I could never get my head around the boxy shape of the adams hybrid.

I'm a golf club junkie. I've tried them all. One Hybrid has stood out for me as the best, and I have two in my bag right now; easy to hit, and inexpensive to boot.

The Cobra DWS (2006-2008). At least as good as the new TWS, and I think better. I have great confidence in mine, and they cost less than $100 each.

    • Welcome to TST @Camjr.   We're glad you've joined.
    • Angle is not a factor. I hit the ball 100’ high. Par is net birdie. My CH is 16. The rough between the bunkers is like 10’ wide though. That’s not something you’re going to try to hit on purpose. Most of the area to the left of that is fescue/native vegetation and I’m pretty sure there isn’t a flat lie in any of it. It’s the second hole.
    • Hello all.  I'm about to be 57 yrs old, started playing when I was 16, and have quit and restarted the game more times than I can count.  I had started playing a weekly round with a friend, and finally made the jump to Senior A shafted Tour Edge clubs.  Instantly gained 10 yds with an easier swing (why didn't I make that jump sooner???).  Glad to be a part of the group. Cheers all,
    • I think I like this hole.  It is a clear "Risk-Reward" choice.  Since most of the shots in your cone cleared the bunkers I would say they are a minor risk and not a big issue.  Playing the aggressive line may give you 70ish yards in from what looks to be playable rough while conservative play is 120ish from fairway.  I know you said 70 vs 120 is minor for you but how does the approach angle in impact your results?  I figure both strategies are playing for Birdie since holing out from either is mostly luck. Looking at your proximity hole I think it says @ 50 feet when hitting from the fairway from 100-150 and 40 feet if hitting 50-100 from the rough.  Neither of those is an easy birdie putt.   I like the approach angle from the rough between the bunkers & the adjacent tees over the angle from @ 120 in the fairway but I really do not like the idea of hitting onto the adjacent tee boxes and that may impact my confidence with making the shot.  Also, too far left may be a worse approach angle then from the fairway short of the bunkers. For me this may come down to how confident do I feel when I reach that tee box.  If I am stroking it well off the tee leading up to the hole I would try for over the bunkers and the better angle in but if I am struggling that day I would likely opt for the fairway to take more bad stuff out of play.
