I am in the market for a new wedge or 2. At the moment i am leaning towards Cleveland. Not only their reputation for wedges but i have hit my friends CG12 52* and also his CG15 60*.

I am looking to get a DW(51* or 52*) with standard bounce and a LW(59* or 60*) with low bounce.

Do you think there is much of a difference between the CG12, CG14, and CG15 line of wedges? If i can get them cheaper should i try to get the CG12s or is there that much of a difference with the two models. I hit both and didn't feel much of a difference but i only used them for one round.

Or should i flip the table and anyone else recommend something else for a GW or LW?

This first time i swung a golf club was on 5/8/10....

I love my Vokes! But those CG15's are SWEET! I really like the curved leading edge, it gives you a little more club under the ball. They will really get a ball out of the sand, rough or a tight lie!

I would go to you local retailer and hit as many as you can.

I have a VR 60, as well as a couple of vokeys (as seen in the sig), and I love them equally as much. I haven't really liked the Clevelands. My main grudge against it is the roundish leading edge, and those stupid (imo) lines on the CG15's. Does the thing really have to say laser milled 5 times? A lot of people like vokeys, and that would be my vote.

I really like the CG15 but the laser grooves were gone quite fast and also the agressive grooves filled up with grass very fast !

I currently use the vokey's aswell but I am considering a pair of Scratch wedges !

I play Vokeys, but have had the CG12 and CG14. The CG12 is a very good wedge, similar in feel to the Vokey IMO but with a rounder leading edge. The CG14 has the polymer inserts. It reduces vibration, but I've never felt that vibration was much of a problem. I liked the 12 better than the 14. The 15s look sweet, but you can get new 12s for $80 to 90.

If your index is accurate, I'd get some vintage forged wedges that still have some life left in them (grooves not completely worn down) and a groove sharpener. You can tinker with lofts and lies as you improve, then later you can get a new set to your exact specs.

Personally, I'd look for vintage Ram Tom Watson, Wilson Staff, Cleveland 588 (might be worn out though), Mizuno (like the Clevelands - might be worn out), MacGregor (especially the VIP or recent MT series) and even Vokeys (not forged) since some people dump them as soon as the Spin Milling is worn off - whatever, and of course, anything Callaway forges.

Try these. They are not bad wedges (any price) ,take the price difference from Cleveland,Vokey, etc and take golf lessons .

Give some Ping Tour Wedges a try, they are very good and very under-rated imo. I came close to getting these earlier this year when I replaced my wedges but stuck with the Nike VR's, which are also very good.

Cleveland reps often visit our local demo days, so I have heard quite a bit about their wedges.

CG12 has a slightly wider clubface than the CG14. I tried both the CG12 and CG14 and really liked both models. I now have two CG14 - including a 58* that's not in my bag/sig line as yet. Picked CG14 because the gold insert on back of clubhead seems to absorb vibration.

Supposedly, original marketing was for CG12 to be for pros and competitive golfers, the CG14 more for middle HDCP players. But, everybody started buying CG14, and it ended up being Cleveland's most successful wedge model ever.

CG15 wedges are really nice, but I don't find them any better than the CG14s. Also, they look a little strange to me.

CG12 and CG14s holding line at $89 in most places. Looks like CG14s may sell out this fall; very popular wedge, still has wide grooves. CG12 will probably sell out in spring, after CG14s disappear.

If you're looking for bargain, consider the CG10 model. A couple of the big golf stores have quite a few (52, 56, 60, two-dot standard bounce). These are down to $69, sometimes a discount on second after buying first.

Also clearing out:
* look for Mizuno T-series wedges from pre-T10 era, both new and used. Some new ones can be had for $70.
* Callaway X-Forged selling in some places for $70; can also find decent used ones on occasion. I play X-Forged SW, but their other wedges just have too much bounce for me.

Really? CG14 most successful? Seems around the shops here, CG12's have been selling quick and there are loads of CG14's sitting around on discount.

I would've guessed the 588 wedge was their most successful.

These are our local patterns. CG14 is most successful? That's what a veteran Cleveland rep told me.

CG14 discounts? Sounds like I live in the wrong area. I hear you on the 588s: Sports Authority and another sporting goods store had batches of new 588s show up this spring, and this summer. I wonder if it's a quiet reissue for the model, or if they found a warehouse-full somewhere?

You have to allow for us oldtimers - like golfro I'd have guessed the 588 was the best selling since you can still buy them and it was the number one wedge for so long. The times they are achanging.

I played MacGregor MTs for 20 years and Ping Eye-2 clones for 14. Used stock wedges with both sets.

I'm a real oldtimer... was probably taking a nap when the 588s came out.

Yeah I've seen the CG14's go for $69 on certain sale days. Usually I'll see around for $89 but whenever I see wedges go on sale, its always the CG14 and CG12. I recently came across a badge of 588's as well for $59!!!! This was like 2 weeks after I bought my CG15 too and I grew up using the 588's so I bit my lip and had to walk away without making another unecessary purchase.

But anyway, I have both CG12, CG15, and also use my 60* Callaway X-Tour which has been awesome to use. I'd say the differences between the CG12 and CG15 aren't too noticable other than groove differences.

I love my Mizuno mp-t10s! They are forged and in my opinion feel much better. Feels like my irons instead of that click sound you get with other wedges (vokeys, clevelands, pings). Although mp-t10s have comforming grooves they seem to have just as much of bite as anything else as long as you hit them well. Nike VRs are nice too but they thear balls up with their grooves.

I hit a demo days earlier this summer when I was looking for wedges, expecting to really like the Clevelands and I ended up hating them. I liked the TM xFT and the VR Tour wedge a lot. I settled on the xFT and am very happy.

Titlest wasn't there so I didn't get to hit the Vokeys.
