Heard that on the Golf Channel this afternoon. Very sad. I'd have a tough time picking up a golf club again after that.

18 Holes--80 @ Carroll Meadows Golf Course(+9)

If I were the golfer that hit the tee shot, that would be the last time I ever hit a golf ball no matter how good I was. I can't even imagine how bad this guy must feel, or the greif felt by the course workers family.

I will be taking this article to my local course and handing it to them. I play at a course where the maintenance workers never give way to golfers and will sit on the greens edge or in the center of the fairway when players are teeing off. It seriously gets in my head as I'm always worried about hitting into them. Maybe this will get their managers attention and change their ways.

It should be posted in every clubhouse and maintenance shop and everyone should have to sign off after reading.

I play in a league that is all ages and this one guy who plays from the "senior" (forward) tees always stands in my line of fire on the 18th hole. I played with him today and sure enough he did it again. I mentioned to my buddy who plays the rear tees with me that even though he was ~40-50 yards ahead of us if my ball came off my driver at him he wouldn't be able to react fast enough to get out of the way. I don't think anyone could. I went on and teed off after I called out to him to pay attention, but I think after reading this I'm going to insist he move farther out of the potential path of where an errent tee shot could go...

I always think the people that line up to watch the Pros tee off and get in really close forming like a tunnel for the ball to get trough are crazy. Sure there pros but everybody has bad day here and there.

Im sorry but he was 30 yards away? He might as well have teed off with the worker standing directly infront of him. I could never take a shot with som1 infront of me (especially at that range and my shots do go off at random directions some times).

42 is too young to pass away..., I bet the golfer will have emotional problems after this too. Stories like this always makes me feel like

Workers do this all the time. Was playing the other day and the entire staff was standing in the greenside bunkers on a par 3 filling them in while everyone tee'd off.

Pro's dont mis-hit like that. If they did they'd be amatuers.

Yeah, and that's not 30 yards away. I don't mind if people stand "in the way" if they're 100+ yards away and paying even the slightest bit of attention.

The guy in the story was close and apparently not paying attention. Double whammy.

Even if he's watching the shot you think he'll get out of the way?

He'd have about 3/4ths of a second to get out of the way. The average reaction time is about 1/4th of a second. He'd have half a second to process the fact the ball is coming towards him AND move. yeah, not gonna happen.

At 30 yards he'd have enough time to get out of the way enough to avoid it hitting his temple.

yeah, not gonna happen.

By that logic nobody would ever be able to hit a baseball. This guy is 50% farther away and doesn't have to swing a heavy piece of wood several feet.

Besides, my point was more about the guys on the green of a par three - that's not a big deal.

I highly doubt this. As he won't be sitting there ready for a shot to the head. Say 1 mississippi. Now take off 25% of the time and try to get out of the way of the golf ball even if you know its coming. If only people had those kind of reactions. We wouldn't ever have car accidents.

Baseball players are anticipating the ball coming at them and start their swing way before the pitch is close to the plate.
