iPhone - app to measure distance?

Thread Starter

Anyone have a good app for measure the distance of a golf shot in the iPhone?  I found a free program called "Golf Shot Distance" but it's pretty slow.

I'd basically just like to have something where you hit the button where you're starting... drive to where the ball is... hit the button again to see how far you hit it.

I don't need anything fancy...

I never thought of trying an app like that. This piqued my interest and I found this.

I'm gonna try it next time I go out.

FYI: I got an "invalid address" when upgrading an app this morning - I think Apple changed address validation.

Ooh that looks interesting. Currently I have to piddle around with GolfCard GPS for distances.

Search for "golf gps" in the iTunes App Store. There are many, many choices -- free and paid.

I use Golfshot, which tracks distances exactly as you've described and also keeps score and collates your stats, while giving you pretty accurate yardages all over the course. "Fancy", yes, but for less than the price of a dozen balls, it's been an absolute bargain.

I have "MyCaddie Pro"--now it's free!--and it has a feature called "ACTIVE SHOT" that measure distance from where you hit (you tap the button) and where you end up (tap the button again to get the distance).

It also has GPS and you can map your own course, if it is not mapped already.  It also keeps track of your stats and scores.

One of the best free app for iPhone.  With iPhone 4, only about 15-20% battery drain for 18 holes.

I can vouch for MyCaddie Pro...I've started using it this year and everything Yukari stated is correct.  This free app is awesome and it does it job well without draining your battery life.

It's not for  iPhone but still ,  an Android application called Planimeter does exactly what you need. You can mark your initial position using GPS/Network  then walk or drive  to the ball and mark it again. It will show you the distance you have walked:

If you are willing to pay $19.99/year for it.  Unless they've added that feature to the free version...

I use Golfshot.  As mentioned above, it works great for all the features noted, including the measuring of shots.  As a plus, and Golflogix (at least the paid membership version the last time I checked) does this as well, it allows you to log those shots by club with yardage and accuracy information so that you have a history and an average for each club.
