front foot spinning out/jumping on impact

So I took a camera out for my weekend round with the pops and noticed something on my bad driver swings..and even a couple of my good ones.

my front foot spins out pretty bad even when my weight gets to my front side and I also seem to really jump up at impact just after impact.

Any ways to help correct this? Maybe I'm subconsiously just swinging harder sometimes and not even realizing it.

Well I know Bubba Watson does it..but I'm no Bubba, thats for sure..lol.  I don't suppose its TOO much to be concerned with(my distance is fine..250-280 and thats carry plus roll for any of you knuckleheads)..the only problem seems to be that I flip when I do this and usually the shot is right and slicing/fading depending on how bad it is.

I do this as well.  I've been working with Eric and James at Golf Evolution.  For me, it helps if I flair my left foot more and feel the weight transfer to the outside-front of the foot during the down swing.  I also try to get me left knee and hip to smoothly slide toward the target on the downswing instead of a quick motion.  It seems counter intuitive, but if I slow the start of my down swing down and think smooth, then I hit better and further.  the foot jumps and spins if i swing to fast at the start of the downswing.

Went to the range after work this morning and concentrated on my left foot. I felt like the foot was rooted to the ground and the grass was a lot less messy after my session. I did flare my foot out a touch, as mentioned above, which helps. I also noticed it helped a bit with my tempo - concentrating on keeping it planted really helped with a nice and smooth tempo and slower, which I've been needing.

I use to spin out, but now i feel like my weight is at the back of my left heel when i hit a good shot. Though the grass on the ground for me is turned a bit, so i am sure my foot turns out a bit, but not much as it use to.

after watching the videos a few times...I think I was just trying to swing too hard instead of staying in form.  I stand up really badly, my arms look to get really stiff(read: tense) at impact and like my whole body tenses up.

I'm not so concerned with the foot moving.....like I said my distance is fine but I'm very concerned with the overswinging because thats when I lose balls to the right.  Also, when this happen my follow through gets really short, I seem to flip, and all the bad things you don't want.

Iacas or one of the pros on here can probably give you better advice.  Personally, I think your backswing is where it is starting.  Your right elbow seems to be really high and behind you and the club looks well above plane.  This is causing you to lunge at the ball and lose connection with your left arm through impact and cast at transition.  I know that doesnt seem like it would cause the movement of the left foot but the transition required to get that club back to square is making you overswing....just my opinion by the way good luck and hopefully one of the pros will be able to give you a better idea.

I've never really thought that it matters much what a back swing looks like, but at :09 seconds it looks great! But then again I don't have all the fancy equipment to break the swing down.

You appear to have very little lower body movement at all. Your swing is mostly arms turning around your torso. You are really going after the ball, so once you make contact that momentum is simply carrying through your body, leg, and into your foot. It has to give, the way you are swinging. All of your hip movement is turn, and it all takes place well after the ball is gone just to get you turned towards the target line.

The first thing I would recommend is to swing slower, maybe take some half swings. See what happens. It should at least lessen it.

With my handicap I may not be the best person to ask but what I see (or don't see) is you driving your lower body through the ball.  That's what I've been working on, so seeing what you're doing looks a lot like what I was doing until I realized that I needed to make a change.  It seems to me that your swing is mostly arms with your chest rotating but the hips and big muscles in the lower body not playing as big of a part as they should.  If your lower half is driving the swing home it should improve your balance as well.

I appreciate all the advice and I'm not a handicap discriminator! :p

The more I think about these misses I have, I feel like they are from overswinging.  I am definitely going to work on keeping my levels during the swing(I stand up at impact REALLY bad) and also on getting the club flatter(shouldn't be hard) as well as getting a little more slide in my swing.

    • Best drive I've ever hit: I will not be answering any questions about the rest of the hole. Or the round, for that matter.
    • I tried hybrids way back when TaylorMade introduced the copper orange Firesole Rescue, the clubhead having been made of titanium which was still relatively new even in drivers back then. I couldn't hit it well at all, and while the success of hybrids suggests that the modern ones must be quite good,  I'm perfectly happy with the 5, 7, and 9-woods.  Early ones of mine were Top Flite Intimidator 400s made by Spalding... and also made of titanium, now that I think of it.  I still have them in my basement. I do bag a driving iron, but it's a one-trick-pony that never sees fairway use.    
    • The last time I played Maxfli balls, Dunlop was still making them. How long ago was that? Mostly, though, I used to play Top Flites (original 336 dimple model) when Spalding was still making them. Now I play the Pro V1x. Last time that I ordered some, Titleist was still making them. Let's see how long that lasts.
    • Once, on a course in Middleton, Massachusetts that I used to love but has since closed down,  I hit the wrong half of a huge, UK style double green.  Then I made the hundred foot putt.  Tough to  forget that one.
