Anybody really paying attention to Barry Bonds this year and his chase to break the homerun record...I am slightly interested only because I love history and to witness something this monumental would be awesome...that is until A-Rod breaks the record

I think most baseball fans are simply sick of Barry Bonds and his steroid driven home runs...He is viewed as cheating history (although there was never a rule agaisnt steriods until recently). The forum is actually indicative of baseball fans, I mean even Bud Selig is thinking about not going to watch the record be broken. Barry will not be revered as the home run king, at least by our generation.

I can't get excited about Barry Bonds. I hope for a quick end to his reign as home run king and if A Rod is the guy to do it, more power to him (this coming from a resident of Red Sox Nation)!

BillBill, after listening to some Boston sportswriters say that the Yankees are finished and the Sox will take the AL East, I knew the party was over. It started with the 7 - 2 loss to the Tigers and the "avulsion" (we can't say blister here) on Beckett's middle finger. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted . . .

Ditto. I was a Bonds fan when he was with the Pirates, and there's absolutely no way the guy hasn't cheated to get to where he is now. It's sickening.

Guess nobody really cares!

My feeling on it is that I could set a course-record 54 if I were given unlimited mulligans and time. There's no reason you should consider that to be the course record if I were to do that.

If I remember correctly, one of the popular afternoon radio hosts in Los Angeles has declared several times that we should all consider Hank Aaron to be the record holder until someone legitimately overtakes the record, regardless of how many Barry Bonds hits.

The best response has been from Hank Aaron himself saying he'll probably be playing golf when the record is broken. If you want to read some funny propaganda go visit Barry Bonds website and read some of the fan mail he gets. It's not only the steroids making that guy's head big. I'm hoping that the hub bub surrounding this will last about as long as McGuire breaking Maris'. Also with the same HOF result as well.

I see your point but the mulligan comparison really isn't a true comparison, that would be like saying Barry or whoever can redo every hit until it is a HR.

I still don't think that steroids will help you hit the ball. Do Steroids do anything for your hand eye coridination. They do help prevent injury giving you more time to play but they don't really help you make contact. And if they add power and bat swing is there any difference between a HR that is 320FT or 440FT either way the ball would still be a HR.

As has been pointed out already, the 320 wouldn't clear most power alley walls. But 440 will clear just about everything. Steroids can turn a 350-foot fly (out) into a 400-foot homer, yes.

BillBill-I think what you said about steroids letting you play longer is really the crux to Bonds' crapping all over the record books. That and the fact that steroids do not give you hand/eye coordination but the do make you stronger for a faster swing speed. This idiot was a five tool player and when he was younger and the debates about who was the better player between him and Griffey Jr.(who we would all be talking about as home run king if it wasn't for injuries) were always enjoyable. I think MLB let this get out of control watching Sosa/McGwire make the league relevant again. As someone from REd Sox nation it would not make me all to see A-Rod get the record but at least his dirty player moments are on the field.

Everyone keeps talking about Barry being such a huge cheater. That's probably true. But MLB has thrown him under the bus as the scapegoat. Yes he cheated. But so did a HUGE number of other players. (That doesn't make it ok) Everyone's hatred for Barry has kept the focus off the league and Bud Selig as the ones who let it get this far. This a big part of the reason I'm no longer a baseball fan!

Also, people are talking about A-Rod breaking the record so we can celebrate a true record. Has anyone looked at how much he's bulked up since he played for Seattle??? When he made the move to 3rd base, he got huge real fast. I'm not saying he did take PED. But every player in this era has a cloud over their head now. And it's not all because of Barry.

Look, everyone from the Royals bat boy to the pope knows Bonds juiced. At the time, baseball didn't care. The public MADE baseball care. God only know how many players amped their game via 'roids.....including some of the pitchers Bonds faced. I don't like the man....he's arrogant, and a liar (I'd repsect him if back in the start of all this he just admitted it). But we don't get to pick who breaks records. Steroids has to be realized as part of the game. Only NOW it's cheating.

That's a terrible argument. Of COURSE steroids increased his Home Runs. Simply put, all the juice has him swinging with ALOT of power, so that if he gets a hold of one it's sailing out of the park, whereas if he wasn't juiced, he might hit it squarely only to have the wind keep it in the park, or maybe not with enough power to send it out. I personally won't acknowledge Barry as the home run leader, that in my mind will still be Hank Aaron. Actually I'm still hoping bonds trips and breaks his leg before he gets a chance to get 755.

Ditto. I wouldn't even blame anyone who goes all Tonya Harding on his ass, either.

I'm hoping that Bonds & Kobe Bryant have a major collision and neither can get up. They are two of the worst role models in the history of sports. Of course, there are also your Mike Tysons & etc., etc.

I keep holding out hope that he will get a serious injury and have to quit baseball forever before he can break Aaron's great record.

I want pitchers to hit him with a pitch every time he's at the plate to the point where he has to retire.

...and as a Yankees fan, I want A-Rod to break it many years down the road.
