I was thinking the other day how cool this would be , to play 3 rounds in one day . But here is the catch . Play your first round on the East coast , second in the Central and then the final round on the West Coast , Now i know this is crazy but if you had the time and the money how fun would that be to do , ???????????????

I would love to try that. Money might be the deciding factor though.....

Have a limo and some drinks waiting to take you to each course. Play some awesome courses and then turn around and try to go back from the west coast to the east coast the next day.....even harder

Just don't be looking for no balls. Play thru. And you might want a private jet.

From a time perspective it's easily possible but I agree the private jet would be the key to actually pulling it off.

I agree, private jet would be a must.  I really don't think it would be possible to have a 30 minute commute to an airport in NY for a commercial flight.  Plus you would be leaving time in the hands of the airlines and that would not be good.  Def. not possible with a limo.

If you just wanted to play the eastern, central and west time zone why not pick a course close to the line that divides the eastern and central time zone?  Somewhere in Indiana?  Play one on each side then hop a flight to the western time zone, maybe Vegas, to play a course out there.

I think that would be awesome. You'd pretty much have to go east coast to west coast though, so that way you're gaining 3 hours rather than losing it.

Screw the central time zone.  With a private jet, and assuming I could play a round in 3 hours, I'd go for ocean view courses.  Play one on the east coast (Myrtle Beach) from 5:30 - 8:30 AM EST, take the plane to Cali and play Pebble Beach from 12:00 - 3:00 PST, then take the plane to Hawaii to finish off the day.

You cant beat the earths rotation unless you fly faster than Mach1 so flying from east to west coast will only hurt your chances for success. So for that reason, my plan would to be to play 1 round somewhere in the western EST, round 2 anywhere CST, and round 3 in mountain time.  Of course....keeping latitude relatively constant is a no-brainer because it makes no sense wasting time flying north/south And yes, a private plane is an absolute MUST!!

A smart plan:

Round 1 in Terra Houte, IN

Round 2 in KC

Round 3 in Burlington, CO

It's definitely possible with a private jet, but success is dependent on pace of play.  Plan on a quick first round (first tee time), but you are at the mercy of pace of play on the other courses.  Regardless....it would be very tough!!!  The logistics from green.....to plane....to tee will take much longer than you think even with a private plane at your disposal. Sounds like fun...I want to try!  Hahahaha

It might even be possible doing it on commercial air.....an example:

  • Play Lake Nona in Orlando in the early morning
  • Catch AA #1373 from Orlando to Dallas/Ft. Worth departing 9:20am, arriving DFW 11:20am
  • Play Bear Creek right by DFW with an 11:45am tee time.   Play quickly to come back to the airport to catch.....
  • AA #2453 from DFW to Los Angeles, departing 3:10pm and arriving LAX 4:40pm.
  • Zip over to the Westchester Golf Course by LAX for a 5pm time, finishing nicely before sunset

Have rental clubs at each site ready to go on the cart, and just wear your golf outfit (shoes and all) through TSA!

I disagree.   Playing in the summer, tee off around 6am or so and zip around the course in a couple hours, and make it to the flight with reasonable time especially if you can use a priority security line.   And do I fly much?  Just a bit -  I've got over 4 million lifetime miles just on American, and do over 200k miles per year, usually making AA Exec Platinum by June (hence using the priority lines).

My equivilant would be playing a round is Moscow in the morning, Copenhagen in the afternoon and hit Uk midlands round in the evening. Staying at the same distance from the equator yet getting progressively warmer into the evening.

LOL...I'm just bringing to light to unrealistic fantasy expectations.....

Tee off at 6am......play a 3hr round and finish by 9am...............boarding a commercial flight at Orlando International within two hours of walking off the green would be cutting it super close.

Let alone within 20 minutes of departure!!! ......it's not gonna' happen by a longshot.

on the other hand, of you were "The Donald" and had your private plane gassed up and waiting for you on the runway as you arrived..... yea, I think that can be doable if the course is very close. LOL

Sounds good, but don't go to LAX in CA for the last round. Gain an extra hour and fly to Portland (OR) or Seattle (WA) and play till 10:00pm at the end of June (Summer Solstice).  Sunset is about an hour later in Seattle compared to LA on June 21.  I've played many a summer night till 10:00pm.  You could even use 'glow balls' and play on a nice moonlit summer night.

Since I live in Terre Haute (nobody spells it right), I can play at Rea Park, then head to Oak Glen in Robinson, IL. Since my mom lives right there, I can have her drive me to StL and catch a plane to California, have a ride ready since I know people there and hit Rancho Park for the final 18. If I booked this trip today for the end of March on Southwest Airlines, I'd pay less than $300 total for a plane ticket and greens fees... *grabs credit card

I think you might still be able to do it on commercial flights if you did in on June 21 and played only courses in the far north of the U.S.  Maybe something like Detroit, Minneapolis, Spokane.  The June 21 sunrise is 5:55 AM in Detroit, and sunset in Spokane that day is 8:52 PM, and of course you can golf 20-30 minutes on either side of sunrise and sunset, so you'd have just shy of 19 hours to do it.  If you can do each round in 3 hours, then you've got 10 hours to make two flights with +/- 4 hours of total flight time, which would in theory leave you 6 hours for travel to and from airports and for check-in, boarding, and plane/airport exit, which seems doable, especially at not terribly busy airports like Detroit, Minneapolis, and Spokane.  Though I just looked at flights and it costs a s**t ton to get non-stops between those cities!

Oh, and on the direction of travel, the rotation of the earth has nothing to do with it (not directly at least).  The plane is already moving in the same direction and rate as the earth.  It's all relative.  If we had no atmosphere then it would make zero difference whether you flew east or west.  What actually makes a difference is prevailing winds, which in the northern hemisphere are out of the west, which is why flying east across the U.S. is generally faster (and yes, the earth's rotation does have something to do with that, but it's complicated).

    • I'm not doing this for the hundred and twentieth time. Sorry in advance, but you get the massively abridged version. Those guys also benefited from the weaker/shallower fields. Also, Watson's career doesn't overlap with Jack's like many think it did. Tom is nearly a decade younger. Jack won only like four majors only after Tom won his first. And Tom won more British Opens than he did all three of the other majors combined, as it was his specialty (not Jack's). Arnie's career similarly doesn't overlap Jack's as much as many think.   Jack would also tell you Tiger was the better golfer.
    • Weaker depth of fields for sure. Some of the top level guys with Jack were pretty awesome. Tom Watson had the lead on the 72nd hole of the 2009 British Open, an event where Tiger missed the cut. Old Tom was almost 60 years old. Jack himself at age 58 finished Top 10 at The 1998 Masters and scored better than Tiger, who won The Masters by 12 shots just a year before that.   The success of both Tom & Jack in older age gives some hope that maybe Tiger can find the magic again at some point. He’s still trying to figure out how to build the stamina for 72 holes after the leg injury. I would love to see him jump on the leaderboard in the coming years. I know a lot of people have given up on him at this point, but that was also true from 2014 to 2017 with the back injuries. He had a hell of a resurgence in 2018 & 2019. Would be fun to see it again.

    • I ran across an interesting new clip, Johnson Wagner went into that spot with the Referee who allowed the relief.  Apparently there was a perfectly reasonable shot to be made, as Johnson clearly demonstrated, so relief from the TIO was perfectly appropriate.
