What is the hardest shot to hit in golf?

Is it the high draw to get over the trees and land soft on
the dance floor?

Maybe it’s the tight lie 30 yards off the green over a bunker?

I’d argue that for the average Joe Golfer none of these are the hardest shot to hit. The hardest shot
to hit in golf is perhaps not what one would think.  It’s not a cut, or a draw, or a punch stinger, or
even a fairway bunker shot.

It’s the straight shot... READ MORE

Straight shot = zero degree difference between swing path and face angle. (Push, Straight, Pull), so yes its probably the hardest shot in golf, because any sort of difference would mean side spine, and curve. Thats why having an inside out swing path is key, it acts as a buffer, if you have a 5 degree inside out, then you get like 2-5 degrees of face angle to hit a push draw..

But as for generic golf shots, i would say the fairway bunker is the hardest. Just because you really got to clip the ball. Though very high rough is just as brutal because most people don't have the strength to hack it out.

As for wierd shots, the ball above or below your feet by about a foot or more is really tricky.

I guess it depends on what the definition of a "successful" shot is.

If it's hitting the ball DEAD straight vs. causing the ball to curve one way or another, rather than how close the shot actually ends up to the target, then that might be right.  Most golfers, even relatively high handicappers can intentionally cause the ball to curve one way or another to varying degrees, and can even get out of a fairway bunker with relative consistency.

If however the measurement is how likely it is that the shot will end up where the golfer actually wanted it to, I think that the vast majority of "average Joes"  are going to be more successful hitting whatever passes for a "straight" shot than most anything else.  If the goal is to place the ball as close to the pin as possible from 160 yds, most will find it easier to try to hit it dead straight.  Trying to control the amount of draw or fade to get to that same result is much more difficult......as is trying to do so out of a fairway bunker, out of the deep rough, or off of hardpan.

If success lies in the where the ball ends up, I've got to believe that executing a straight shot to the best of their ability is going to be the better solution for most "average Joes".

BTW.....I hate the high draw with a driver!

the hardest shot for me to hit without a doubt is a fade with an iron.  I can hit fades on command with driver but, an iron has always been an issue for me to pull off.

Low drive off the tee. Also hitting a low long iron off the deck. Hitting a straightish shot isn't as tough but I have to throw off my swing a lot to deliver the club with less loft.

A draw. I've been so fade dominant this last year that I'd completely lost it. Didn't miss it until I went back to the course where I have US Open qualifying. Its not a draw course per se, but having it would come in handy on a few holes. I'm coming closer to hitting one. Hit a few nice ones in play today. Need a lot of work on controlling it though! Only 11 more days...

I second this... also any shot where the ball is below my feet. Those can be pretty difficult.
