I currently am swinging Burner 2.0 irons which I love, Cobra S3 driver (will upgrade in winter). Im in a bit of a pickle debating getting a 3 hybrid or 4 hybrid. I dont hit my 4 iron great but am working on it greatly. Will only buying a 3 hybrid allow me to also use it for 4 hybrid purposes by choking up on the club a tad bit? Or should I just get the 3 and 4 hybrid?

I would just get a 3h but thats me. You will be able to choke down and not hit it as far. But that way you can keep the 4 iron in the bag and work on your ball striking. the hybrids are much easier to hit and you could prob get both for competitive rounds but keep the 4 iron for the range. You know once your striking your 4 iron well then your swing will be nice and consistent. I started with just a 3 hybrid myself and after a while was able to get a 3 iron and go with a 2 hybrid.

Yes. I agree with what you said. I couldnt justify the purpose of buying two hybrids while it is tempting, I am generally in need for a 3H especially since my 4 iron is slowly coming around. Will go try out RBZ tomorrow and some others. Thanks for your input.

I have a TaylorMade rescue 11 3 hybrid that I have only hit at the range 1 time and could sell it to you cheap if you find that you like them. I have the 4 and have it set to the lower loft and I absolutely love it. Let me know - Bert

I say get both there is little to no benefit of hitting the 4 iron over the hybrid. Hybrid is longer softer and 10x's easier. Unless your playing in a hurricane cant see much reason to carry a 4 iron.

10x's easier by who's standard?

Some people find it easier to hit an iron over a hybrid.

By the standard of tour pros.  People who think they hit a long iron better than a hybrid are only kidding themselves.  When you have almost every tour pro ditching their long irons in favor of hybrids, thats the end of the argument.

I carry both 3H and 4H.  I have about a 15 yard gap between the two.  4H is a money club on long par 4's because it flies so high.  The 3H is an excellent club off the tee on tight/short par 4's.  Both are fantastic for second shots on par 5's.  4H is the best layup club I've ever hit too.

I was just asking where he got the 10x's better statistic.  Why did that offend you?

Only in the same manner that choking down on your 7 iron would allow you to use it in place of your 8 iron....

FWIW, I carry both and they nicely fill the gap between my 3 wood and 5 iron.  I find that the 4 hybrid is a little harder for me to flight down than a 4 iron is, but my ability to hit it high and land it soft is MUCH better than I could ever do with a comparable iron.   That's a shot I need to hit a lot more often than I do a knockdown 4 iron.

Now if I could just get over the fact that my golf bag looks like it belongs on the high school girls golf team with all the damn headcovers.........

I can't say that I see a lot of 3 and 4 hybrids when looking at all the various WITB posts that Golf Digest posts on Facebook and GolfWRX, etc.  Occasionally, yes, but there sure seems to be an awful lot of 3 and 4 irons in their bags.  And occasionally a 2 iron too (Bill Haas).

I recently swapped out my 4 hybrid for the 4 iron.  My ball striking has greatly improved through practice all winter, and feel much more confident hitting the iron now versus the hybrid.

Yes, but "almost every tour pro is ditching their long irons" .....come on, give in to the peer pressure, LOL

I love made up stats. I happen to hit my 4 iron more consistently than both of the hybrids (3h and 5h) that no longer reside in my bag.  My 3 iron was about the same as the hybrids, but at least with the 3i, my penalty for a poor shot was much shorter distance but still fairly straight.  A poor shot with the hybrid left me looking for my ball more often than not.  I haven't lost a ball since dropping the hybrids, and that alone has improved my scores.  I also hit my irons better than my driver, as 3/4 of my practice time is spent playing with irons.  I must be "kidding" myself then, as my last 12 rounds are lying to me.

Good news is that hybrids hit the ball high; bad news is that hybrids hit the ball high on windy days.

If you have time to work on your game, and see improvement coming, you might keep your 4i around AND buy a 3H and 4H. There may be times when you would carry the 4H, like if you were playing a course with a lot of crowned or elevated greens. On the other hand, switch to the 4i on windy days as a driving iron.

I don't see any reason why you can't hit a hybrid low under wind if you know how to hit the shot.

My Nickents (3&4) tend to fire pretty low with a ton of roll out, probably bad technique though.

This would be easier if you had a Pro or Tour head on the hybrid.

Okay, made up my mind. Will continue to work on the 4 iron on the range and practice rounds. Will be purchasing a 3 and 4 hybrid. Now I have tested the RBZ and a few others. Not sure im willing to throw that kind of cash out. Would it be in my best interest to just get the original burner hybrids that are on sale right now? Or is that new technology really worth it?

You need to get on the launch monitor and find out. You may find the RBZ go 5 yards longer and cost twice as much. Is it worth the extra $$?

In 2009, I was deciding between the Callaway X20 irons (two years old) and the "new" X22.  Tried the 5i and 7i for both sets on two different days. Net result: the X22 clubs went 2.5 yards farther, and cost about $350 more than a slightly used set of X20s. I ended up with the X20s.

(Also, the X20s had a dull nickel finish, while the X22x had bright chrome - turns out the X22s show bag wear more quickly)

    • Day 96 (18 Mar 24) - Continued work with the Divot Board with the GW and hard foam balls.  Focused on small target/small miss…setup to hit target about 30yds out - success if it hit within 6’ circle of target, fail if outside.  Had decent success averaging about 3 out of 4 (hitting in groups of four).

    • I'm relieved someone finally defined hiking. I was giddy when I saw these new TPI videos a day or so after they dropped. Very easy to understand the problem and solution the way they have presented it. Been working on fixing this for about a year and a half now. It's nice to be able to call it something so communication becomes easy.  I was working on more lateral and up too, but just having someone define it clearly in video form was so helpful for me to continue confidently with what I thought was wrong and how I had to fix it.  My conceptual error here was just trying to rotate like a tour pro but without including the necessary forward pressure/weight shift associated with enough lateral and upward motion of the pelvis.  This video is great too, as is Greg Rose.
    • Day 2.    couple mins of rolling putts end over end.    10 mins of Slow, mirror work, working on starting the downswing and impact wrist positions. Hit a couple balls into the net after.    Then finished with a couple chips to see if I could repeat what I worked on yesterday.
