My R9s can't be bent, what now?

i went to get fitted for my own clubs and they need to be +1" and 2 degrees upright.  i am 6'5" tall and supposedly i have fitted myself to my clubs vs. fitted my clubs to me.  my R9's are +1", so that's good, but have the standard lie, so i crouch a bit more than i should.

i had the shop bend them 2 degrees upright, but they called and told me they can't bend mine for some reason.  so now i don't know if i should just play on and distort my posture by using clubs that aren't exactly fitted, or if i should get new clubs fitted properly and go from there.  what are your thoughts?

and then there is of course the whole "which club should i get" debate.  i shoot under 100 consistently, and occasionally an 80s here and there, so i'm definitely in the GI market.  i like the AP1s a lot, and the R11s seem pretty good also.  any recommendations for a tall player with my handicap?

Find out why they cant bend your irons, i wudda thought taylormade clubs would be tuneable? Take them elsewhere and try

Many shops don't want to take the risk of bending a non-forged iron more than 1 degree.  I'm pretty sure the R-9's are cast unless they came from Japan where a forged version was released.  You could contact TM directly and see what they suggest.

Distorting your posture seems like a really bad idea. Get clubs that fit period....I worry less about brand and more about fit. If funds are available look for forged clubs that way you have more flexability in fitment. Maybe find a nice used set of forged irons and have them tuned to your swing... (new shafts and bent for correct loft and lie).

My clubs are cast and bent 2* up.  Maybe the R9s are different, but most cast clubs I've seen can be bent 2*.  I've recently looked at Callaway Razr X and Mizuno JPX and they can both be bent +2*.  You'll have to ask for more details.  Is it a manufacturer's restriction or is the shop afraid to bend cast clubs 2*.

Depends on the material.  I wouldn't bend 17-4.  It'll bend a degree, but it will likely go back in a short period of time.  Possibly could bend 431 a degree, but over time it would still go back.  Personally, I'd buy a new set.  I've seen some cast irons snap off in the vise, as I'm sure many fitters have...so they may be hesitant to bend cast clubs.

yeah, you guys are all right.  they couldn't be bent because the metal is too hard.  they said they've done it before on R9s and actually caused the head to buckle, and that is bad.  so, no bending for the R9s.

also i almost don't believe the fitting i got.  my wrist to floor measures 37", which says standard length clubs.  but i'm 6'5", which says +1.  i guess i don't know which to go by, and to be honest i'm wondering if i paid the golf galaxy tech $50 just to look at the same damn table i found myself on the internet...

this i found also, says +.5" and standard lie.  how the heck am i supposed to know what is right?  though i will admit the tech used a lie board and 2 degree upright and +1 did give me the correct swing marks.

go to a real fitter...Golf Galaxy is not on the list. honestly i guess there may be a few good people there but they are like applebee's can you buy a meal there that is ok and fills you up - yes - but that doesn't make it a great place!! talk to a pro in the area and see what he recommends for a fitter.

I had the same problem when I owned the R9 TP'S I was only able to get 1 degree up.  So I ended up buying Ping I20's and they are 1000 percent better.

Is there anywhere i can go to find out what clubs can be bent? I wanted to purchase a set of the burner 2.0's and might need them bent flatter. Or should I contact TM and see what they say?

    • Day 76 - Pretty sore today, so I opted for putting over my Stack session. Primary focus was on starting line, as my putting has been pretty poor this year.
    • Been a bit of delay in updates but I needed to come back east as my mom's health has taken a serious turn for the worse. In a 3 day span we learned she had a tumor to she has stage 4 cancer and stopped eating and drinking for the most part. She has had a rough 3 months but certainly didn't think we'd be at the point of setting up hospice for her. My mom was never into any sports really other than following the Red Sox because my dad was a big fan. She always cared about what we were involved in including asking about how golf went.  I have kept up with my 5 minutes of daily practice and will go to the gym here in NH tomorrow morning. Despite the somber nature of this trip my family has commented more than a few times about my weight loss so it's important to me to keep it up. I know my mom always wanted us happy in whatever we did so I'll continue with my fitness journey keeping that in mind.
    • Day 109- Putting drills on a putting green for 20 minutes.
    • Day 252: did a stack session. Did some slow rehearsal swings during breaks.
    • Day 82: 3/18/24 Tried a Stack session but could not certify my warmup. Finished with indoor chips and putting.
