Ok, so since I am beginner I was nervous buying a 60* as everyone said it was the hardest club to hit.

But today I decided that I totally love this club!

I went out to the practice green and opened the club face today and took some swings.

I normally struggle with having too much roll but this club was awesome!

I would hit it up and down with little to know roll at all, and since I have been practicing a lot into my net at home I didn't miss hit too many.

I have never known what it feels like to attack the pin, I normally just aim for the green as a whole.

Now I can put the ball withing a reasonable putting distance with all my shots from 30 yards and closer!

I love this club and it will stay in my bag for a while.

If you haven't tried one you should.

Kudos, thinking of getting one myself, I LOVE my 56*. What kind did you get? My 56* is a Nike SV Tour. What's the bounce?

To be honest I have no idea. I didn't know if I would like it or not so I got an 11$ no-name brand from play it again sports. Brand new for eleven bucks! I can't imagine what it must be like with a nice one!

My 60deg is one of my favorite clubs in the bag too.  I use it a lot!!!! I think most people struggle to hit it because they try to open the blade and loft the ball all the time.   they figure it's a 60...so it needs to go high? I can't figure out why it's hard for some people to hit??

Most often, I square the blade and drive it from fairway lies......drive it in low-medium height....it takes one big bounce and ZING.....backs up to the cup.  I only open the blade and hit lobs when forced to out of necessity which isn't too often.

I've holed many full shots from the fairways with my 60.....I love it!!   My 3 favorite clubs are Putter-60deg-and 56deg wedge in no particular order.

I'm also guilty of loving my 60* and use it frequently around the green especially from tight lies and bunkers where the sand is wet or compacted.  I really don't find it hard to hit but I try not to use it beyond a 3/4 swing.  I use an old Ping iWedge that I bought used at GG.  It has substantial bounce (12.5*) but is amazingly easy to use off tight lights and a variety of other turf conditions.  Maybe the sole grind works in conjunction with the bounce to make a really forgiving wedge.  Even though I really like my 60*, I still try to use a variety of clubs around the green to practice a variety of shots.  I don't want to rely solely on my 60*.

[NOTE - I will add that my consistency with the 60* improved a lot after reading Phil Mickelson's Short Game Secrets and practicing his "flying wedge" concept.  Helped me to cut down on flipping which caused all kinds of miss-hits...especially sculled shots.]

I really need to pick up a better spread of wedges. I have a 40* 9i, 45* PW, and 50* AW that came with my set, and that's it. I need to do some research on wedges and pick up a few.

I remember my first day with a 60* wedge. Then I bought a 64 a couple years later.

I am another that don't think a 60 is any harder to hit than any other iron/wedge.  I loved mine from the day I bought it.  I've just about worn it out now, though.  Getting too much rollout on full shots and the bad thing is they don't make my wedge anymore :(  Curse TM and their constant new clubs!  From 100 yards and in..I use my 60.  I love hitting full shots with it from a fairway lie...nothing feels so good.
I'm thinking of going with a Watson wedge(affordable) but don't wanna short myself on durability.

I am shopping a 64 right now. I have loved the 60 for a while and would like to try a 64 and see if it will benefit my game. I am just not sure what club to pull in its place.

Same here but I prefer to use it even closer at 40 yds or less.  David Pelz promotes mastering the 14 yd chip shot because missed greens most commonly result in chips around 14 yds.  That's my favorite application for the 60*.  If I de-loft my 60* and swing hard, I can get a bit more distance but then I'd rather go to my 56.

What I ended up doing after playing with a 64 for years and realizing I need a 4 iron in my bag instead of hitting half shots with my 3 hybrid is to bend my 60 to a 62. I'm really happy I did it. Just food for thought.

Yes. I wouldn't recommend taking full shots with any wedge though. It has so much loft when you take a full swing all it does is go up. With the amount of loft a 60 has it should only be used for 3/4 shots at the most IMHO.

I take full shots with my 58.12 all the time.  I also take 3/4 and 1/2 shots, chip, pitch and flop with it as well as sand.  It is the most versatile club in my bag.  Almost anything in from 85 yards, I use the 58.

Full shots with my 60 every round I play.  Again..I don't see it as being ANY different to hit than any other wedge/iron.  Develop the proper technique/fundamentals and you're off.  I play mine from 100(stock full shot) all the way to the green.  The only time I use another wedge around the greens is for certain bunker shots or when I need more roll less flight on a pitch/chip.

I don't have a 60 degree but love my 58, also an SV Tour.  I use it on just about every shot out to 50 yards, then switch to my 54 degree for 3/4 to full shots.  I always tell beginners they should have at least a 56 degree wedge, but ideally 58 or 60.  The high loft wedge has to be the most valuable club in the bag.

    • My two cents? Don't. As a beginner that's interested in learning about the golf swing, you'll find yourself consuming a lot of information, most of which isn't even relevant to your own swing. You need to learn you can't think your way to a good golf swing. Focus on the one thing that you're working on and doing that on every swing, come what may. And remember, mishits happen.
    • Day 6 (7 May 24) - More work in the backyard focused on tempo in addition to setup.  Worked with 6 and 7 irons hitting hard foam balls - used the old MacGregor irons to mix it up a little.
    • No! lol. But they have to be in the right sequence to play mid-handicap golf or little better. Mostly. And even in that there is range/margin for error in the motions and positions that most normal humans can handle. It helps if you have a decent idea of how a golf club moves around the body like you would any other equipment sports (baseball and hockey might be the closest) After all, fairways are 40 yards wide. Don't overthink it. Be diligent in getting basics right. I will concede that it is harder than it sounds but it certainly is not exact angle/exact position/exact degree of bend/exact speed/exact facial expression, etc, every.... single.... time or the result is horrible death.
    • Looking to play in the Severna Park Golf league and it got rained out the first three weeks. I know the course is being renovated so it is not in great shape but the location is easy for me and I would love to meet some other golfers in my area. Anyone here in Maryland Annapolis area?
    • I like to look at the positives.  Overall you are fairly consistent down the center with most shots 20 yards or less off center.  On most fairways that should be in play.  Sure, you had some very short duds, but also if you look there is a good cluster in the 110-125 yard range.  Sure, we would all like to be longer, but knowing your typical shot is more important than trying to hit the 7-Iron 175 Yards.  Just take more club for longer shots and do not worry about it.  Your distances may increase as you improve over time so do not get caught up on that now.
