I carry a Wilson Staff light weight bag.  The shoulder straps and the back kidney panel are turning my pants and shirts black from sweating, especially in this weather.  High end pants and shirts too which is starting to piss me off to no end.  Anyone know of a cure for this?  thanks

It's really almost unavoidable. Can you get a cart?

I walk all my rounds carrying my bag but have never had this problem.  If the black is running from the bag onto your clothes, I'd suggest getting a new bag.  If the discoloration is just from your sweat itself...maybe wear darker clothes?

Maybe try a push cart?

I am the sweatiest person on the planet and I have never had this nor have I heard anyone having this issue.  I would either get a different bag, or try some different straps.

I'd probably give you a challenge for that title. :-) And I've never had that issue either. Sounds like an issue with the bag.

If removable, try throwing the straps in the washing machine by themselves to have them bleed out.....this might work. Otherwise, buy some new straps - never heard of anything like this happening before.....

In the bag:

TaylorMade R11 Driver (10.5 stiff stock shaft)

TaylorMade R11 3wood (15 degree stiff stock shaft)

Adams IdeaPro 3i hybrid (20 degree)

Titleist DCI 4-PW (photo)

The culprit is a cheap dye job. Either toss the bag or treat it with a leather sealer like Resolene.

Is there a Tandy Leather store nearby? If not ask the local shoemaker what to use.

Since the bags not leather an upholstery sealer would probably work and will be easier to find.

I have ran into this with motorcycle gloves and ended up throwing them away. I would toss the bag. The biggest issue is what to replace it with, all this new crap comes from the same factories.

Ping has the Moon Lite bag and empty is under 2lbs. I've walked enough this year to lose 10lbs myself. In Texas with plenty of heat, I'm a sweat machine. No dye has come off on my clothes. Hope this helps!

I found a pull cart in the garage that I don't think was ever used.  I don't even know when it was bought to tell the truth.  Covered with spider eggs etc so hosed that off and used it yesterday.  No discoloration on my clothes!  ha ha.  I called Wilson Sports and they had never heard of the issue either but they sent me 6 doz golf balls for my trouble.  That was pretty cool.  I didn't even want anything from them only any suggestions.  Maybe I'll try washing the straps etc.  I enjoy carrying my bag and frankly this Staff bag is pretty lite like under 4lbs if I recall.  thanks for all the tips

  • 1 month later...

I also have had the staining problem.  I live in FL and it gets hot and humid and that is when the problem is most noticeable.  I had it with a Sun Mountain 3.5 and I now have it with a Ping Hoofer that is less than a month old.  I was told by Sun Mountain that their technical people surmise that the pH of some people's sweat causes the problem to occur.  With the Sun Mountain bag, I ended up using a sheepskin cover on the strap and that eliminated the transfer of the dye to my clothes.  The Ping strap is wider so I'll need to find a wider sheepskin cover if i am to use the same solution.
