I got off work late today and didn't have time to squeeze an entire round in, so instead I hit a large bucket of range balls. Ten swings into the bucket and my driver head breaks off and flies about 40 yards into the range. Its a Nike Machspeed Black SQ Str8 fit, and the shaft busted right at the Str8 fit tip. The club has been threw about 20 rounds and 700 range balls over the last two months and I assume it's normal wear and tear. If its not normal wear and tear its no biggie. I'm not upset with the situation, and planned on replacing the shaft with a stiff anyhow. I would still consider the Machspeed Black to be a very good club, I'm in no way complaining.

P.S. I'm new and while learning how to drive the ball the club WAS plowed into the ground maybe 20-30 times LOL. The actual shot that busted the shaft was solid contact though.

I wonder if I should replace the shaft or get a Burner 2.0.... or even a RBZ driver?

Sincerely, Jim

If you like the driver, just replace the shaft, and try not to ground it so much. That is a nice driver.

Maybe you could ask someone to send you a free one on here.... I keed I joke. I would keep that one. You are new and need to get your swing down. Save the cash for later and get fitted. I picked up a pro launch red shaft at rock bottom golf one year for 19.99 brand new. This is a post from my not as smart as it thinks it is phone.

3 things I have found that seem to break shafts. Hitting the big ball to hard, hitting the little ball off of the hosel, trying to fit clubs intothe trunk of a car that is not designed for drivers of their current length... a hatchback is the way to go... lay down the skinny seat of a vw golf and you can fit 3 bags and 3 people without issue... I would be willing to try 4 bags and 4 people as long as the 2 in the back are skinny and close friends :)... my chevy tracker 4 door can also get 3+3 in it without indangering the big dog to a trunk.

I say if you like the head, just re-shaft... though I do love my RZB, I liked my old Launcher quite a bit, I just gained to much clubhead speed since I was 16 and needed less loft wint from 10.5 to 8* I also think the shaft on the TM is a little stiffer then the gold shaft on my Launcher...

I broke my str8 fit driver in the exact same spot. I was going to trim the shaft and reinstall it. I couldnt get the short broken piece out of the adapter tthough. Anybody have any advice on that, or where I could get a new adapter?

I don't know that you will be able to fit the old shaft into it. I am not sure but I think the taper is only so long and you generally trim from the butt end.

I thought people did trim from the tip at times to stiffen the shaft? Thanks for the link.

I'm just going to replace the shaft with something new. I would like to contact Nike and see what they could do but I'm not sure I could wait that long. I have been looking at the shafts and narrowed it down to three of them, one Grafalloy and two UST Mamiya's

This is the old shaft that busted.

Nike Fubuki 50

Weight: 52

Torque: 6.9

Launch: High

Flex: Medium

------------------------------------------------

These are the three I am choosing from.

Grafalloy Prolaunch Red

Weight: 64

Torque: 3.0

Launch: low

Flex: Stiff

UST Mamiya V2 65

Weight: 66

Torque: 3.0

Launch: mid

Flex: Stiff

UST Mamiya V2 75

Weight: 76

Torque: 2.2

Launch: mid

Stiff

Which ever shaft I choose it sure looks like the torque will be going way down. I also wanted to get a stiff flex because my SS is 103 average atm.

Sincerely, Jim

This happened to me 3 times with my Machspeed str8 fit. Nike replaced it each time, no questions asked. I just went back to Golf Galaxy where I purchased it and they packed it and shipped it both ways for no cost.

I traded it in for a Rocketballz driver for this season. I Just never liked the way it felt and I became skiddish worried about breaking it again.

Hmmm, Ill go ahead and reshaft it this time. If it happens again Ill get a new driver. I'm slightly excited about an after market shaft. If I was to get a new driver, I'm pretty sure I would be reshafting it also. After reading a little about aftermarket shafts, I'm really starting to like them.

So you're gonna let Nike off the hook at your expense?

I just read into an old post that somebody recently  revived about the Nike Str8 fit tips and busted driver shafts. Nike VR Str8 Fit Tour Driver broke at . Seems to be somewhat common, and I noticed one member posted about even breaking a  Prolaunch Red Axis after market shaft in the str8 fit tip. This concerns me because I'm reshafting mine with a regular Prolaunch red. I'm under the impression that stock shafts are a bit weaker then an aftermarket shaft. So I can understand the stock shaft breaking down after a short period with a high swingspeed and some accidental groundings lol. If the shaft breaks after reshafting it with the Prolaunch Red, I'll be slightly upset though.

One member mentioned it could be a flawed tip and another possibly bad "glue". What ever it is I'll be sure to post about it if my Prolaunch breaks. I understand that if I would have sent the club to Nike, they would have fixed it free which is good customer service, but Ill never buy a Nike driver ever again. I hope the reshaft lasts, if not oh well, I'll be going all .

Sincerely, Jim

Cool, the new shaft is here. Prolaunch Red and I'm ready to install it, just one problem. I have limited knowledge on the subject atm. Im not sure how much to trim off the tip, if any, and if I should go with my old driver length of 45.75", or shorten it. I'm going to look all the trimming info I can, but any information or sugjestion will help me cross referance my findings.

The shaft and grip should look nice on the Machspeed Black.

You tube has a ton of videos on these subjects. Trim the end with the grip is the butt. I would go with your original shaft length. Trimming will change the swing weight significantly.
