How long do you play your course?

What tees and yardage do you play from? I try to play from the second to back tees, (My course has 5 sets of tees), but I know some of my friends who try to play the championship tees but it is just too overwhelming. The second to back tees are about 6900, and the championship tees are about 7200. We play at Quail Hollow Country Club,(Charlotte,NC) where the PGA Tour's Wells Fargo Championship takes place. Would yo rather challenge yourself more by playing from where the pros play? or playing your style?

I play the blues.

Which pretty much means nothing.

My home course from the middle tees is just under 6500 yards, so I shoot for about that on most courses I play.  Sometimes I'll go shorter if the course slope is 130 or higher.  I'm not that long any more, and playing a course beyond my comfort zone just isn't much fun.  Guys who don't have the game, but play the  tips anyway "just so they can get their money's worth" are idiots, in my opinion. Especially if I'm playing an upscale course on a one time deal, I want to have good memories of it, and that means playing within myself.

No it doesn't.  I do this too ... AFTER my rounds.  (Works really well if I remember to bring my harmonica)

I always "go with the flow" on tee choice (whatever the majority of the group wants, I go with) but if I played by myself I would usually go with the 6500-6700 range.

According to Erik's guideline for distance (I believe its 5 iron times 36) I could play courses pushing 7k, but I am too inconsistent at this point for that to be fun.

6092. Slope of 129.

Used to play 6574 and moved up last year. Par 3's were too long and troubling for most of our group from the 6572 tees. (I still play those tees once in a while -- just not with the Saturday group) Back tees play 6950 and if the wind is blowing like normal, the par 3's are nearly unplayable for all but the best players. Five sets of tees makes it possible for most players to find the correct yardage.

Even with four sets of "men's" tees, I wish there was a set around 6300 yards with par 3's that can be played by most.

dont have a home course. i will play as far back as possible unless there is tournament tees that are around 7k. I guess that would be my limit. I even said the other day when we were getting ready to tee off. I said I will play tips but if my driver isnt working by 6 im going up to whites and using my 3 iron off the tee.

At my home course, I play either the middle (6002, 68.9/126) or the back tees (6378, 70.5/130).  Its a Par 71, with an extra par 3 instead of a par 4, which probably accounts for 200 yds or so.    So I think that's about the same as a 6200/6600 par 72.

According to 5 iron times 36, I should be playing 6800+.  According to Tee it Forward I should be playing 6500-6600.  According to the sign at my golf course,  I should be playing the 6002 tees (based on handicap).

I just play whatever the group is playing, unless they go from the whites.  440-450 for a par 5 feels like cheating.

Hmmm.... The shortest par 5 on my home course from the middle tees is 496 yards and the longest is 530.  Don't think I've ever played a par 5 any shorter than that.  Our 2 longest par 4's are 430 - 440 from the mids.

i play by the rule:  5I * 36, which for me is 6480.   That puts me inbetween whites and blues a lot.  My home course the blues are 6560 and the whites 6172, so I play the blues.  But that's about as long as I'll go.  If the blues are 6700+, I always go white.  If the course is new to me, I usually go white as well.

We've got one that's 505/560 (middle/back), that's a true three club hole unless you can carry it 300 off the tee.  Two forced carries and a well guarded green.  Then an easy 456/510.   On the back there's a 473/505 with a small landing area if you go for the drive, and a 479/498 thats another true three club hole--more than 230 off the tee and you might lose it, and the second shot is 250 out with complete jail if you miss the green by more than 5 yards.  The course gets you on elevation changes and blind shots more than distance.

I've been playing 7121yds 75.1cr 141slope exclusively this summer and my HC has dropped because of it.   The next set forward is 6564yds 72.5cr 137slope and I score about the same from the shorter tees.

I almost always play the whites since people of my modest abilities generally don't belong on the longer tees.  However, at one 9-hole course I sometimes play, I'll go white on the first nine and then blues when I replay it to make things interesting and make it more like a real 18-hole course, since the added distance brings water, bunkers, etc... into play that aren't an issue from the shorter tee boxes.

On another course I play somewhat regularly, I've been thinking of trying the blues since most of the par-4s are under 380 yards from the whites so I almost never hit a mid-long iron or hybrid; either I hit a nice drive and have a short iron or wedge to the green, or I sliced it into the next fairway and need a more lofted club to clear the trees separating the two fairways.

Monster course. Which one?

This. I'd prefer to move back a set of tees, but my regular guys don't want to do it. Sometimes I'll run into guys that play from the senior tees. I'll join them for the sake of the group, but not only do I not score better, my HC suffers as well if I get enough rounds in at the lower course rating.

I play the gold tees that are 6529 rate 72.6 slope 135,  but on friday mornings we move back to a tournament combo tees 6874 rate 73.7 slope 139, the furthest tees are 7024 rated 74.5 with a 142 slope, the course recomends that unless your lower than 4.6 you should not play from these, we still get guys who try and of course they get their moneys worth and a nice big 100+ score at the end.
