I have noticed an increased number of young guns listening to their ipod while hitting range balls. Are they doing this for rhythm, to look cool, or what?

Do any of yall do it?

I don't listen to music on the course, but I will sing to myself sometimes. Jack Johnson's "Breakdown" picks me up and gives me a good tempo for chips.

Awards, Achievements, and Accolades

I don't always hit the ball perfect and I think it would make me look even worse if I looked like I wasn't focusing. I always wondered if it was okay to do though. I guess it doesn't matter what others think but I still see a lot of the same people every time I go to the course so I don't want to embarres myself.

If I am playing by myself, I love clipping on my iPod and playing all 18 listening to my favorite hair bands from the 80's (Motley Crue, Van Halen, etc.)

I use my iPod when golfing (by myself) or when on the range/chipping/putting. I even have a playlist for golf named "calm," for obvious reasons. I'll usually keep it on low volume so I can hear impact, or sometimes I have the earphones dangling around my neck with the volume all the way up.

I usually listen to a bit od led zeppelin or dream theater on the course lol. It just relaxes me and stop me thinking so hard about each shot which usually ends up with the ball going in every which direction.

Does anybody golf (especially when out by yourself) with music or IPods going? If so, does it seem to help you or deter your game and what music do you prefer to listen to when golfing if you do?

I like the "being outside" part of golf, but I loooooooove music and was wondering if I should even consider mixing the two. I wouldn't be able to hear "fore" with headphones on...that's for sure.

Personally I don't believe this would work for me. I feel it would detach me from the environment ....I love the sounds and senses I have on the course ....I think music would interfere with that. Don't get me wrong ..I love music as much as anyone, but I don't think it would help my game.

On another note, I could see how one could listen on a slow day on the course, (e.g. waiting for groups in front of you). But I would think one's tempo could be jeopardized.

No way, I couldn't concentrate, but then again I can't listen to music while I study either. I prefer the peace and tranquility of the coure over music any way.

Played a round the other day with a guy, "maybe mid 20's" that right from the first tee had one earbud in and was listening to music the whole round. There were 4 of us in that group and he never knew anyone one of us. I didn't mind, and it seemed like the other 2some in our group didnt seem to mind either. I just played my game and enjoyed the company, and he never ignored any of us or anything. Acually I have thought about doing the same thing a few times. Would you care if someone did that that when the walked up to the first tee to play in your group?
