I have been wondering - how often do people change their clubs. I have been using the same set of clubs for years, but I have been relatively uninterested in equipment until now. It seems that most people tend to change their drivers much more often relative to their irons. I think I may follow the same trend. How often do you change your clubs?

I've had the same irons for 22 years, every year I say I'm getting new ones and then I get to playing and decide I need to play more, not have new irons.....this year however my be ther year I pull the trigger......I just replaced my 13y/o Driver with a new 460cc Cobra and woof.......it has definately made me re-think getting newer technology!
I've spent most of my life golfing - the rest I've just wasted.

I am surprised and proud of you guys Much more disciplined than I thought. Products do tend to improve each year, but not enough to justify the prices - just marginally. Not to mention the marketing fluff. But it will always nice to be able to get new equipment once in a while.

Driver: I've had this driver or some form of the same driver (different shafts) for a year. I tend to change every 1-3 years but now that technology, IMO, has leveled out a bit I may keep this one a little longer. Then again, maybe I won't

Fairway Wood/Hybrid: I've been going through a few of these within the past couple of years. I just can't settle on what I want, equipment and bag configuration.

Irons: My irons are, I think about 5 years old. I have thought about getting a new set but haven't. They seem to be the mainstay in my bag. Truth is I've kept these in great shape over the years and I don't think iron technology has advanced at the same pace drivers have. Plus, I think one of the reasons some people may change drivers/wedges/putters more often is cost.

Wedges: These get replaced every few years. However, I seem to be going backwards... I had 588's for about 5 years, switched to CG10's this year have gone back to the wedges I had before. Only problem is it's easy to wear out the grooves.

Putter: I've had this putter for 4 days The one before that almost made a year. Before that a few years...

I certainly don't think you have to change equipment often. For a lot of us it's just sort of a hobby. I think driver technology has changed a lot but not so much with the other clubs in the bag. If you're happy with what you've got then by all means keep playing it.

I change clubs very seldomly. I do not have to have the latest and greatest.

Been playing with the same irons for the last 10 years. I made the switch to hybrids last year and still play an older Titleist 905r

I guess I already knew but its interesting to see that people switch their driver the most frequently even though it is used the least. In my opinion hitting your driver well boosts confidence and is very important for your mental game. There is just something about a drive you crush that just seems to get sucked into the sky like a laser guided missle...

I've had the same irons for quite some time, and they are pretty old to boot (Ping ISI-K's), but they work great for me and there's plenty of rounds left in them. I just got an expensive driver/fairway/hybrid setup and I will most definitely keep those for a while, but I don't feel too guilty because I've never really had expensive equipment, and this was the first time I really went "all out." I just re-gripped my irons and they feel like brand new clubs. Obviously the wedges take a beating, and if they wear down I would certainly get new ones, but as far as "latest and greatest" it seems like irons and wedges are pretty straightforward, and have been for at least the last decade. No need to change drastically (for me).

I'm actually not going to vote, because the way I do it doesn't fit into any of the choices except maybe the putter or irons. I just got a bunch of new clubs last year, and I should have some wedges coming in the mail in the next day or two. I'll probably get a new driver next year and maybe a new 3 or 4 wood in the next couple years. Wedges will be replaced if I find something better or if they get worn out. Putters will come and go with moods I guess. I'm using a really awesome belly putter right now, and unless I find one that helps immensely, it'll stay in the bag. Interesting post!

Good luck,
Ryan

I'm just in the process of replacing my irons that I have had for 16 years, and the wedges that I have had for 9 years. I'm pretty excited, but I was with ChiChi, for years, I kept realizing that the clubs weren't the problem, it was my play or lack of. Now that tech has changed so much since 1991, it's time to upgrade. I only changed from my TaylorMade original 1 wood (1985?) about 6 or 7 years ago. However, the Titleist 905 driver my wife bought me last fall has made me rethink, and I am anxiously awaiting the arrival of my new TaylorMade r7 irons! We'll see if this changes my replacement pattern in the future.

I know a couple of lefties, who tried out there luck as righties because they were inconvenienced with the relative lack of equipment, nuisance at the driving range and other reasons. They both ended up switching back to south paw. The world is sexist and "right-ist."
