What drill or how can I learn to hit "down" on the ball?...to take a divot after a clean ball strike.

I'm  trying to be more of a consistent hitter but I seem to take a divot before hit ball and divot after...would love of course to be able to make clean contact with the ball as I'm hitting down and then take the divot after.

I was about to pull my thread because I did a search on the forum ( should have known better) and saw the towel drill and a link to this post...just to confirm though the drill is the weight forward drill?

Thanks for posting.

Check out "the impact zone" by Bobby Clampett. It will help you grok impact. Long story short, hit the little ball before the big ball

Even better video than the one posted above imo. http://youtu.be/_6LoqIEhbMw the video above does not say to rotate just wait forward so modified the drill based on jims video

I recently saw a vid on youtube. The guy was saying you tee it up to learn to hit down on it hopefully you have grass to hit off of. Start high then go lower. Golf is a lot of eye hand coordination

If you like it, I suggest surfing through that entire thread as there are a lot of other good drills in there.

Tour Striker is helpful. I try and use it a few swings with every pre-round warmup and more swings when practicing.

Not really a drill, but a great aid.

Yeah ... never had a chance to try one of these, but based on their looks, I'd have to say that if you hit it well at all, then you pretty much HAVE to be hitting down on the ball with your weight forward, no?

Club face does not know where your weight is. Yes, to hit a TS well (get the ball in the air), you must hit down on the ball and lead your hands ahead of the shaft. My good swings have me driving into a flexed front knee so, the weight is forward. If you can hit a TS and get the ball in the air without weight forward, I think you will lose your balance to say the least.

The TS is an indicator of good contact but does not, in and of itself, drill techniques that create good contact. So, unlike a drill, this club just shows you if you are doing something right.

If you are going to get a Tour Striker you should be sure and get the Pro version. It will be tough to hit at the start, but once you get it, you will be hitting down. The other thing is you need to hit off the grass with a Tour Striker. You can fake it off mats.

Right.  It's kind of the same thing I feel about all swing aids.  Take the Medicus, for example.  If you have a good standard** swing, you can hit balls without it breaking down, but I bet (I've never actually tried one) that you can also figure out ways to make it not break down and, yet, still have a poor swing.

**  I would be there are tons of pros that could not get that thing to work for them using their normal swings.  I'm guessing your Rickie Fowler types at A2, Dustin Johnson at A4, Jim Furyk at A's 1-infinity, Brendan DeJonge, and probably several others.
