That's a tough question. Comfort is important in my golf shoes but I also take other things into account (performance, looks, brand). These are all factors that are extremely relative towards the consumer, making them very hard to measure. However, my shoe is comfortable because it does not constrain my movements and is loose but tight at the same time.

Comfort is number 1. Although I must admit that I did keep a pair of golf shoes longer than I should have because I shot my career low round at the time. But the shoes hurt so much that I had to take took off in the middle of a round....

14 of the 18 pair of golf shoes I own are all FootJoy shoes.  If they weren't comfortable, I probably would have never bought that many of the same brand anyway.  I do look at other brands.  Style is what tweaks my interest in new golf shoes.  If I find a shoe I like in style/color/the way it looks, then I will try it on.  If it fits well, then I would probably buy them.  But, I would never buy a pair of shoes online that I had not previously purchased and worn so I would know the fit and comfort level.  But, when it comes to FootJoy shoes, I have no fear of ordering those.

Couldn't disagree more. You want your foot to be very loose in your shoe. I actually recommend removing the laces, this will give a maximum of potential rotational force which can the be delivered to the ball via increase toe pressures.

That is indeed the newest candidate for clubhead speed that i have heard.  Take off your shoe laces and rotate through the ball.  Well, a spark of truth here as ole' Sam Snead recommended shoeless golf to give the proper foot feel.

But where i play, it's up and down the hills all afternoon. Not so easy when the shoe is flopping around.

Comfort is king.

I wear Nike Lunar Control II shoes that are loose enough for me to slide my feet in and out of them without untying the laces.

I look for the design of the shoe and its performance characteristics, and check out its comfort.

I wear True Linkswear ... since their inception.

Could be a sequencing issue with your toes. Need to externally rotate the big toe of your left foot (for a righty) while simultaneously allowing the toes of your trail foot to go into toenal flexion. But this is largely :offtopic: (and BS ;)), we're supposed to be buying shoes.

I want both. The look of the shoe is what draws me to it, but it has to be comfortable. I won't buy comfortable shoes if I don't like the look of them.

Luckily there are lots of shoe options these days and it's easy to find nice looking, comfortable, and quality golf shoes.

    • My two cents? Don't. As a beginner that's interested in learning about the golf swing, you'll find yourself consuming a lot of information, most of which isn't even relevant to your own swing. You need to learn you can't think your way to a good golf swing. Focus on the one thing that you're working on and doing that on every swing, come what may. And remember, mishits happen.
    • Day 6 (7 May 24) - More work in the backyard focused on tempo in addition to setup.  Worked with 6 and 7 irons hitting hard foam balls - used the old MacGregor irons to mix it up a little.
    • No! lol. But they have to be in the right sequence to play mid-handicap golf or little better. Mostly. And even in that there is range/margin for error in the motions and positions that most normal humans can handle. It helps if you have a decent idea of how a golf club moves around the body like you would any other equipment sports (baseball and hockey might be the closest) After all, fairways are 40 yards wide. Don't overthink it. Be diligent in getting basics right. I will concede that it is harder than it sounds but it certainly is not exact angle/exact position/exact degree of bend/exact speed/exact facial expression, etc, every.... single.... time or the result is horrible death.
    • Looking to play in the Severna Park Golf league and it got rained out the first three weeks. I know the course is being renovated so it is not in great shape but the location is easy for me and I would love to meet some other golfers in my area. Anyone here in Maryland Annapolis area?
    • I like to look at the positives.  Overall you are fairly consistent down the center with most shots 20 yards or less off center.  On most fairways that should be in play.  Sure, you had some very short duds, but also if you look there is a good cluster in the 110-125 yard range.  Sure, we would all like to be longer, but knowing your typical shot is more important than trying to hit the 7-Iron 175 Yards.  Just take more club for longer shots and do not worry about it.  Your distances may increase as you improve over time so do not get caught up on that now.
