So it looks like Jack came out with a new line of golf balls. The Nicklaus black, blue and white for 3 different levels of play. They apparently outperform top brands on th website.....don't they all say that...lol. Anyone get a chance to hit one yet or have they been released on the market at all??

Saw the balls on FB and the dimples look very shallow.

Here's a link for those who are curious.

http://www.nicklaus.com/golfballs/

I don't know if they're any good but I really like what he's done with pricing. There is a recommend price and a minimum price. If you're broke you pay the minimum price, if you can afford the recommended price the difference is donated to charity. Very cool.

Hmmm...I didn't think of that, kinda thought you'd get a receipt of some kind with your purchase but it's not very clear on their site so you might be right.

I just checked out the site.  The donation is separate and indicated as such so yes, you can deduct your own donation.

But, the balls seem pretty cheesy to me to be honest.  The site doesn't say a dang thing about how it's made as far as 2,3,4 piece, what cover is on it, etc.

Seems kind of dumb to me to make a ball for each set of tees IMO.  I benefit from a urethane ball like prov's or hex chromes because I can actually spin the ball.  But I'm not a big hitter so I don't play the tips.  So what would I get with the blue?  Not a clue but it will likely hurt my greenside.  Just a guess.

  • 1 year later...

My wife grabbed me a  couple of sleeves of the "blues"  and I got 18 in with them last weekend.

I have to say I was impressed. I'd say they're  VERY similar in performance and feel to most of the

other midrange 3 piece balls out there, i.e. Titleist NXT Tours. Topflite Gamers, which have been my

preferred balls for the last 3 years, I also found very similar though the Gamers felt just a touch softer.

The Nicklaus balls are manufactured by Bridgestone. Could this be a rebadged Bridgestone E6?

Sounds like white, blue and black is marketing for the mentally challenged. I've never liked Nicklaus stuff. MacGregor was crap.

My brother used to have a starter set of Nicklaus clubs. I liked then quite well for cheaper clubs.

I apologize for having a spam URL in my signature and will not do it again.

Bridgestone manufactures them Joe, but they are not re-badged Bridgestone models.  Same with the Nike balls...Bridgestone makes several models but they are designed by Nike.  Here is an excerpt from a Golf Digest article on the Nicklaus balls:

"In the past, Nicklaus has lent his name to signature brands of golf balls, but the new Nicklaus line is proprietary, manufactured to his specifications after three years of testing. Nicklaus said Bridgestone is manufacturing the balls and counseled on its design."

On a side note from someone else's comment, for those who don't know, MacGregor was once a highly respected company that made premium gear.  The list of players that have been on their staff is as impressive as it gets- from Hogan and Nelson to Nicklaus and
Weiskopf to Norman and Olazabal.  At one time literally half of the players on tour played MacGregor clubs and there have been many who gamed their stuff without being paid to do so.  Did they ruin the brand and their reputation through a series of bad decisions?  Yes.  But at one time they were a giant in the industry and helped modernize equipment with true craftsmen.  Crap?  Really?

    • My two cents? Don't. As a beginner that's interested in learning about the golf swing, you'll find yourself consuming a lot of information, most of which isn't even relevant to your own swing. You need to learn you can't think your way to a good golf swing. Focus on the one thing that you're working on and doing that on every swing, come what may. And remember, mishits happen.
    • Day 6 (7 May 24) - More work in the backyard focused on tempo in addition to setup.  Worked with 6 and 7 irons hitting hard foam balls - used the old MacGregor irons to mix it up a little.
    • No! lol. But they have to be in the right sequence to play mid-handicap golf or little better. Mostly. And even in that there is range/margin for error in the motions and positions that most normal humans can handle. It helps if you have a decent idea of how a golf club moves around the body like you would any other equipment sports (baseball and hockey might be the closest) After all, fairways are 40 yards wide. Don't overthink it. Be diligent in getting basics right. I will concede that it is harder than it sounds but it certainly is not exact angle/exact position/exact degree of bend/exact speed/exact facial expression, etc, every.... single.... time or the result is horrible death.
    • Looking to play in the Severna Park Golf league and it got rained out the first three weeks. I know the course is being renovated so it is not in great shape but the location is easy for me and I would love to meet some other golfers in my area. Anyone here in Maryland Annapolis area?
    • I like to look at the positives.  Overall you are fairly consistent down the center with most shots 20 yards or less off center.  On most fairways that should be in play.  Sure, you had some very short duds, but also if you look there is a good cluster in the 110-125 yard range.  Sure, we would all like to be longer, but knowing your typical shot is more important than trying to hit the 7-Iron 175 Yards.  Just take more club for longer shots and do not worry about it.  Your distances may increase as you improve over time so do not get caught up on that now.
