It rains quite a bit up here so I have some experience. Light rain is fun, heavy rain is not. The rain can wreck havoc on the greens and make them so that some are slow while others remain fast. Just be carefull of letting go of the club, I landed a 9 iron on the fringe of a par 3 130 yards from the tee block...the ball went like 7 feet. . But I still held my finish like a champ

Usually use NXT Extreme's or HX Hot's

If the course is open, I play on it.
Rain/Ice Rain - Heavy, or Light.

I have water resistant shoes, & treatment for them, rain pants, and rain jacket, and all weather/winter gloves.

The best advice I can give is that you can't compromise price when buying rain gear. I found that a jacket that is one size too big does best.Ensure the jacket is very long (goes to my mid thigh) and you need to have good fitting pants, not too tight or baggy, and the right length. Look for options on the waist band, draw strings are best as long as they stay tight.

I have a Nike StormFit Jacket & Sunice Storm Rain Pants, Foot Joy Shoes, & Foot Joy Gloves, & a giant umbrella

I personally do not like umbrellas because they're too big and cumbersome; especially with high winds. I would just buy a rain jacket or vest and bring a few extra towels or rags in your bag to cover your club heads and dry your grips when needed.

I'll play in light rain, cold, or freezing rain. I don't have much equipment for these situations (yet), since I've only taken the game seriously starting this March, or so. I don't play only in the following situations: over 95 degrees and/or really humid, thunderstorms, or a complete whiteout (no such thing here in Kentucky, anyway). Even then I'd play an orange ball.

Thats the best time to play, make sure you get a cover for your clubs or else the grips will get to wet it will get very hard to hang onto clubs. I always play in pouring rain. Dont use a golf glove, it will just wear it out, use without and im sure the wetness of the grips will moisten your hands so it wont hurt as much.

You forgot to mention about the cow smell in the hot weather too....that's playing in extreme conditions (btw I went to Laurier, so I am not knockin' ya)

I actually like Waterloo I agree with Heat light rain is ok (i wouldn't use fun myself) but I shy away from heavy rain....being wet just plain sucks

I like playing in the rain as lonsg as there is no lightning! I have to agree with mountain hip, to invest in some good rain gear. I bought mine at cabelas. I also have a set of rain gloves and love to use them when its wet. A couple of hints...put on your rain gear before you get wet and you will be more comfortable. Its is amazing how many people I see who wait till they are soaked to put on their rain gear, then spend the rest of the time griping about how uncomfortable they are. I also keep a towel in one of the larger pockets on my bag and only use it to wipe off my grips and then put it back in to keep it as dry as possible. I have a zip lock bag that I use to keep my scorecard in to keep it dry.
There are two reasons I like to play in the rain...1. most other folks leave the course so you could have it almost all to yourself. 2. I like the smell and quiet that comes to a golf course after a rain...very peacefull. The picture in my avatar was taken just after a light rain.

Trouble is, as I'm sure you've experienced, here in Colorado it's a rare rain that doesn't come with the electricity attached. I did play in rain for about 1 hour of my round on Friday. The sky was rumbling a bit but they didn't blow the horn for that 2nd storm of the afternoon. Our 1:12 PM start was delayed for 45 minutes because of lightning, but we never had to run for shelter after we got on the course.

You are right about the frequency of the lightning here in Colorado, but every once in awhile it does happen. My avatar was taken up at Breckenridge in May and on the final hole it started snowing on me, great big wet flakes, which I thought was really cool.

lol lets say, over the last 3 months and i've played around 20 rounds with only 5 being in dry weather! So yea got a bit of experiance, although the one time it was a moonsoon and parts of my wet suit were taken in water!

Thing i like about rain is that, you dont swing as hard or as fast so my shots were normally better then in the dry. Just a bit less distance.

Putting is a right pain, some parts the ball stops. Some, its just like if it was dry and the ball flys!

no kidding, my dad attended Laurier and so did my brother. I go to all of the home football games. Too bad I'm not applying there this year; I want to get into engineering which is a faculty WLU doesn't have. Did you golf around here during your Laurier days?

Usually use NXT Extreme's or HX Hot's

My friends and I have played in the pouring rain, and it's actually alot of fun. We virtually have the course to ourself, find loads of golf balls, and hey where playing golf, can't ask for much more. All I would say is cover your clubs the best you can, and make sure you dry out your stuff when you get home.
