First time I ever seen anything like that. I like it though.

I know of a few courses like that.  I think it's a decent idea ... at least in that it reminds people who may be unsure which tees would be the best fit.  I would hope that nobody was really strict about those though - all you need is to be able to keep up and have fun.

That said, its not surprising that Torrey would require permission to play the blacks on the South.  It's rated something like 78. SEVENTY EIGHT!!!!! In the thousands and thousands of rated tees in the country and around the world, how many of them are rated that high (for men)?I would presume that they don't even put the tee markers out for the blacks.

Here's an odd one:  The course I played my recent tournament at has a sign out with this info on it.  Thing is, it's next to the cart path between the 9th and 10th tees.  And it's a "linksy" type course, where the 9th and 10th holes are nowhere near the clubhouse.  There is no way to get there without having already played to the 9th green. :-P

Scorecard Recommended Tees based on HI is this common?  I've never seen it before.  Interesting that you need permission to play from the blacks.

I noticed that some of the tees are something like 90 yards behind the blues.

Probably a safety thing if the party behind you thinks the tees box is open when in reality you are standing almost 100 yards behind them.

I doubt it.  The course managers know if there are tees out there, some knuckle head is going to try to play from them.  Very few knuckle heads have the ability to get around Torrey in under 4 1/2 hours from the way back tees.

The rough at Torrey is pretty punishing, even without US Open conditions.  It probably is the toughest set of "white" tees I have ever played, and that includes Carnoustie.

Quite a few golf scorecards in the St. Louis area list the recommended HDCP range for different tee boxes.

You can end up with big yardage gaps, however. The Orchards in Belleville, IL has 5,800 yards for the white tees and 6,400 yards for the blues.

Focus, connect and follow through!

Possibly, I've only played thr North course before, so IDK.

    • Typically less than 50. I find this can be affected by the "CART" signs on a given course. I don't like taking my rangefinder out of the cart and carrying it around to the green. I am very fearful I will leave it somewhere.
    • First ever holed out greenside bunker shot! It's crazy it took this long to finally get one during a round, but the cold streak is officially over. Hole 6 on the Palmer Course at PGAN. I hit my driver like 225 into a really stiff wind, then worm burned a hybrid into the bunker. I was about I dunno, 40-45 feet away. Birdie! Let's go! The red Xs the approximate location of each shot.  Really fun!!
    • Day 23: Rained all day, so no ball hitting. Worked indoors on top of the backswing feel, and also putted around the living room working on bead.
    • Played Four Oaks in Dracut today going back to the 2 man scramble match play format. My brother and I shot a team 81 winning 3 and 2. Had so many good shots today using a more centered turn. Seems to have really iginited my golf game. We'll see if I can keep it going.
