Are the golfing gods smiling at you?

As you might know I’ve had some health issues this year, in fact I still do but I made the decision to soldier on anyway.

If you don’t know and you want to find out read some of my earlier posts here “In the Sand Trap”.

Here in Sweden “winter is coming “ but the game is still on.

This morning we had: -1 Celsius = 30.2 Fahrenheit, which is pretty cold for golf,

but if you dress right and don’t expect to score under par it’s still good fun.

In ernest most of the courses in my area have closed down for the season,

but there’re two courses still open.

Having my season spoiled by  my health was probably the best thing that could have happened to my game.

Not being able to hit full “power”swings for almost the entire season forsed me to focus on the short game, putting and “feel” instead.

Amazingly enough, when I put the driver back in the bag I started hitting it straight and long,

I still weigh about 40lbs less then I should and I’ve lost a lot of strenght but I’ve been putting down some seriously good scores on the card.

So to quote the Rolling Stones:

“You can’t always get what you want but sometimes you get what you need!”

So to answer my own question.

’Yeah, they are!’

I hope all of you have had a great season, and have overcome your troubles on and off the course, if that is not the case I hope  that you’ll do that nexs season.

Seasonal greetings to you!

I love this game most days

@Anpe ,

Thanks for posting.  I hope you get a few more rounds in this year.  I looked up your location.  You are very far north.  You may be the most northerly Sand Trap member!

Regarding the health, I'm afraid that the fight is still on, but I'll  get through it! :)

Yeah, florida sounds nice I wouldn't mind relocating there.

It's great for 3 seasons. Summer gets a bit toasty. But the golf rates are cheaper. :-)

I posted this picture boasting of the playing conditions on my course two weeks ago. This is the 10th hole at Vancouver Golf Club.

This is the same course last weekend. This is the first hole at VGC.

Obviously golf gods have no sense of humor sometimes.

Get well and keep on golfing.

Got to admire your love of the game.  Seems around here if the temps get into the lower forties (F) we all cry about the cold weather.

Looks like a nice place for sledding. Do they let the kids slip down those slopes?

Best wishes to your (and everyone's) health.  Getting out and able to play golf is a simple pleasure in life no matter what one's handicap is, where he is playing, etc.

Are the golf gods smiling at me?  Not last Sunday.

Forecast was "rain" for most of the day.  But I see a window of 4 hour stretch starting at 9:00 am where hourly forecast was cloudy, scattered showers, or light rain.   I've played in scattered showers & light rain a week before and it wasn't bad.   So I head over to the course and it's practically empty, only 10 golfers have teed off ahead of me. Why not?  The weather was ok - cloudy at the time.   As soon as I get to #1 hole, it started to rain, and rain, and rain - non-stop.   I played on for 13 holes until accompanying cold weather made it hard to make any kind of normal swing, my teeth were clattering, clubs were slipping off of my wet gloves/hands, ....   I was completely wet down to my wallet in my pocket.  I was literally the last one to give up and leave the course.  As I drove away from the course, rain stopped and weather became conducive to playing golf the rest of the afternoon.

Hey dude, glad to hear from you again, I was one of the ones who responded in your initial thread mentioning your health problems. Golf was one of the most important things in my recovery from my illness. I lost 60 lbs in three months and the non strenuous nature of golf allowed me to ease back into physical activity. More importantly, the mental aspect of the game was pivotal to getting my mind out of very dark places. Being out on a golf course, enjoying nature, grateful to be alive, the whole zen-ness of just hitting that ball and then walking and going to find it was so important. I hope you can find something similar in your experience.

    • Went to a PING fitting day today. Going to be ordering a G430 Max 3w with a 75g x-stiff shaft at 5w length and a 3h. I forget what my fitter did with the shaft on that but she told me she’s going to email the club the specs of everything. The 3w combination we found pretty quickly. As for the hybrid, we tried a bunch of different head and shaft combinations for that distance with mixed results. Then she handed me the 3h and I took three swings with it and knew it was the one.
    • Yeah, this isn't sandbagging. It's outright cheating. He should be banned.
    • That’s quite a generalization. It’s clear that you don’t like water but there are plenty of us that drink it just fine. My daily intake is usually about 20oz of black coffee, 16oz of soda, 8oz of milk mixed into a protein shake, and anywhere between 30-60oz of water. It doesn’t even need to be cold and I kind of prefer it closer to room temperature than cold. I quite like the taste of tap water, with sole exception being the tap water at Magic Kingdom (it’s terrible). I can’t stand when people bring me tap water with a lemon wedge in it. I didn’t ask for lemon in my water.
