I'm used to riding in all parts of the city and 2nd avenue is probably one of the scariest stretches.

This video is showing buses, but, imho, a lot of passenger car drivers don't appreciate, don't have one iota of this perspective or just don't give a s**t.

I'm sorry, but it's crap like this that turns people against  responsible cyclists.

These knuckleheads are intentionally putting themselves in a contrived, unnecessary, and dangerous situation in an attempt to "make a point".  

I hope that the popo cited them and pulled them off the road!

Those are Brazilian public transportation city bus drivers, it's part of their training.

I meant the alleged "cyclists".  They're the knuckleheads in this case...

No… North America evolved into a huge land with things spaced far apart. As such, we need cars.

I could bike to Golf Evolution, for example, but often when I go it's raining, or dark, and the extra 30 minutes it would take me is not worth it. I couldn't bring as much stuff (training aids, etc.).

You live in NYC. Things are closer. People don't need to drive, with subways and public transportation.

"North America" doesn't live in NYC. Many of us live in the suburbs.

Agree. I love cycling and raced for a bunch of years. I commuted the 13 miles to work for a while too. But we are not set up for what Amsterdam does. I've been there and seen first hand. And it is not like folks are commuting into the city from the suburbs either. It is from within in city. 

Our commutes are on average much longer. 

Actually I'm referrring to NY and big cities, they're all choked up with congestion and it's only going to get worse. It follows that suburbia and exurbia are even worse. Not talking about commuting to work. Just going to get the milk, it's such a car culture. 

BTW, the subway is falling apart. Delays are worse than ever. People have had it with our s**ty f***ing mass transit options. 

And I'm not asking to get rid of cars wholesale. How about some hooks on commuter rail cars? The police department not reflexively blaming the cyclist when there is an accident when time after time, CCTV and firsthand reports show the motorist is at fault. And the  high horse wear a helmet and all is okay attitude.

Hasn't Amsterdam been traditionally a bicycle city? When I think of Amsterdam, I think of bikes, tulips, and wooden clogs. It's kind of unfair to compare any other city that is transitioning into more of a bike friendly environment to one whose infrastructure was probably designed with biking in mind.

NYC subways are falling apart because they're old and half the reason for the delays is because they're trying to upgrade stuff. NYC Metro isn't London, Hong Kong, Singapore, etc., but it isn't Los Angeles, Detroit, or Mumbai, either. But the grass is always greener somewhere, right?
