I switch around.  It doesn't seem to matter much.

This pretty much sums up the thread. Unless you like the entertainment of ‘noticing’ a real difference. However none of those differences are as meaningful as the differences in price.

I never realIy delved too deeply into playing a certain brand or type of ball.  Based it on price.

But I switched from Pinnacle to Callaway about 6 weeks ago and my scores have gone down.  Coincidence?  I have no idea.

I love all the tests my golf spy does, gives great info and insight, however I play maxfli softfli and hit them as far as the prov, I can buy them a lot cheaper, Dicks always has them on sale at $10-15 a dozen. I’ve tested dozens of the expensive tour balls on my home course and they get the same distance as my maxfli, I also get good  height and they stay on green. But if the difference was substantial, I would play a tour ball whatever the cost.

The biggest difference you will find with tour balls is in the short game.  If you hit the shots correctly, you can get a tour ball to check up remarkably quickly.  Of course, if your shots are more based on a chip type game where you get a lot of roll, then pretty much any ball will do.

I had chimed in earlier on what balls I prefer to play and am still there.  Funny thing is the other week, I was part of our church men's group monthly best ball 9-hole round and was riding with a former course pro.  I asked him which ball he preferred and he laughingly said, "I've hit them all and cannot see a real difference in any.  In fact I have not bought a ball in 12 years, playing exclusively OP balls I find all over the courses I play."   I thought is was interesting to hear that as I had a conversation earlier in the year with a gentleman who said his game had progressed to the point only a certain ball would work for his game.  I guess golf balls are like deer rifles, rods-n-reels, special fishing lures, golf clubs, tennis rackets, baseball bats & gloves....it's really all about what gives you confidence to play better, hunt better, fish better.  May we all continue to enjoy the game, banter about clubs, balls and course conditions as to why we did well, not so well or just out and out had a club tossing game (saw that one from a far the other day - nothing catches the eye like the glint of a chrome golf shaft flying through the air....)

    • Lazarus Irons....top notch and way cheaper than the big brands.
    • I know you guys were discussing this like a year ago. But, ironically I just had this discussion with my brother-in-law. We literally just did one of these. I'd always used the "Slow-Cook, Rest, and Sear" Method. But my bother-in-law was convinced the "5-Min/lb, 500 degree" method was the way. So, we gave it a go. I have to say it came out great.  I have a 25 year old, electric oven, GE brand... Not sure if that matters, but it came out great. ... Of course we stressed that nobody was to open the oven.   I don't make these all that often so, I'm not sure if I can fully recommend one method or the other, because without doing a Pepsi Challenge, I'd say both ways come out great. 👍😁👍
