Mizuno JPX Hot Metal vs TaylorMade P790

Just wanting some feedback from anyone who has tried both of these clubs. 

Tested both today. I have been absolutely set on the P790's

JPX Hot Metal didn't feel amazing but every ball I hit went perfectly straight. Best iron I have hit ever in terms of consistency.

P790 was a nightmare. High, Low, Slice etc. 

Do you think that I just had a really bad test with the P790 or the Hot Metal's really are just that easy to hit and I am not a good enough ball striker for the P790's?

Its really hard to get a proper fitting in Thailand so feedback is greatly appreciated especially from high handicappers.

Hello. May I ask what had you set on the TM P790? FWIW, based on the MPF ( Maltby Playability Factor) the JPX Hot metal is a game improvement, easier to hit club than the P790. It’s not surprising you hit the Hot Metal better. They’re both nice irons. Did you hit both the short and long irons of each?

Go back and hit them again. Never ideal to make a decision after one time hitting although that how most people do it. If the Mizuno still performs then you have your answer. Try to switch up the order this time also just to ensure useful results. There are many reasons a certain club may not work for you but the majority of the time it comes down to weight and balance and how you respond to those variables.

Had a similar experience this past weekend, originally made a post on here asking for advice/input before going out for my fitting. Like you I had my favorites brands and or series of irons that I thought would be ideal for me. I specifically told the guy that I had some favorite brands but I'm not buying a set of irons that I can't hit well, I then went so far as to tell him I didn't really care so much for a certain brand but I would be open to what the results showed.

Guess what happened? I hit my several favorite brands/series first, then the guy had enough balls to hand me the brand I specifically said I didn't care for. Hit them so much better and they are 2 clubs longer than my current irons and 1 club longer than the other favorites I already had picked out before going in. After hitting this brand/series of irons me and the fitter both had moments where we just look at each other after hitting because we both know we found the irons for me.

I was going to update my post to reveal what I ended up going with but wanted to wait and post pictures and all that but I'll go ahead and tell you what brand/series suited me. So I was pretty set on Callaway and Mizuno, specifically the Apex 19 from Callaway and the JPX 919 Forged from Mizuno. I would say that I hit them well and could play them but my fitter wasn't the type of guy to just sell me a set of irons for the sake of getting a product sold. He kept handing me different clubs so we could get a good spread of variety, I hit Callaway, Mizuno, Ping, Srixon and Wilson.....then he handed me the TaylorMade M5s and it was game over for all the others. Felt amazing, sounded amazing and all I can say is that those clubs fit me for where my game is currently.

So with all that being said I would go back and tell them you are on a mission to find the right irons for you. When they hand you the right irons and they check all the boxes like the M5s did for me you will know it. Go back and hit a good variety of irons!

Went back again and the Mizuno's just suit me so well. I actually think these clubs will improve my scores once I get my hands on them which I have honestly never really had with clubs before.

I have reasonably new clubs which when I purchased believed would improve my game but once I tested them didn't help me much they just look nicer so decided to get them anyway as I like new things haha.

These Mizuno's however actually seem like they are going to help! Can't believe I didn't consider them sooner! No matter what I do within reason the ball goes perfectly straight. I don't think it will be very easy to shape them but to be honest I'm not good enough to be worrying about that at the moment. If I can hit my irons straight every time I'd be super happy. 

Might even be dropping some of the hybrids in my bag 🙂
