Pretty neat video. I have heard of people spraying stuff on the face of their clubs to prevent any spin. Maybe just play in the rain.

Yeah? During play? That’s illegal of course.

I can remember a spray-on product called STRAIGHT that was advertised and endorsed by Bob Rossberg many years ago. Most likely some sort of oil or silicone product that reduced sidespin. It was clearly stated as being illegal for tournament play. You can also buy illegal "no slice" tees that have a cup face to prevent contact with your club face. Less spin, but less yardage too.

There’s no such thing as side spin. The ball has backspin and turns because the axis is tilted.

That spray along with the Hammer driver and the brush tees have made millionaires out some people.

Vaseline is a lot cheaper.  Though I only used it once to see what the results were.

With regard to water on driver clubface and water on the ball I can tell you your drives are a lot SHORTER.  The ball essentially dives back to earth.

So. It spins sideways.

No, the ball spins backwards, slightly tilted.

You can’t reduce “side spin” without simply reducing spin in general.

It's not. There's no such thing as "sidespin." Really, there's no such thing as "backspin" either, though you can get "pure backspin" if your spin axis is 0°.

There's just "spin" about some axis. The axis for virtually all golf shots is relatively horizontal. You can mathematically break "spin" — both the rate (revolutions per unit of time) and the axis angle — into component vectors, and that's what's historically been called "side spin" and "back spin" but that's just a way of making something "feel" easier to understand.

There's just one "spin" on the ball.

P.S. Some believe there's a "rifle spin" but I haven't seen anything credible on that, really.

    • Yea Club Rat said it. I really enjoyed the Senator and the Judge, then over to Grand National where there a couple good courses plus a fun par 3. The one I do play whenever I visit there is Ross Bridge; something about this course that is just good fun. I hope to play more of the courses in the future, but tomorrow is promised to no one, so hope is the key word. Have Fun, iSank

    • Day 56: 4/19/2024 Okay, even though I'll be teeing it up in a tournament in less than a week. I couldn't find time to get to the range today.  I spent time on the indoor putting mat.  And I spent time in front of the mirror with my 7 iron. Then again later with the driver.  I also thoroughly cleaned all my clubs.
    • Just stumbled onto the article.  Totally random and thought it might be interested to hear other thoughts. maybe I am tired of all the LIV crap and  this just caught my attention.
