I see not a few people using small golf mats that have just room enough for the ball, not a big mat like at the ranges and so since little mat is 1 or 2 inches high, the ball is above the feet.

What are the long term effects of practicing like this, versus finding something to stand on so your feet are level with the ball, like a big mat or even doormats?

Kill slow play. Allow walking. Reduce ineffective golf instruction. Use environmentally friendly course maintenance.

It made me crazy when my set up was like that. I guess that’s an effect!😀

I guess if we are doing drills, I want to focus on the drill and not an odd lie. Plus I want to film and it is better with everything being level. If I want to practice odd lies, I can shift things around.

I stand on a board, that is equal to the height of the matt. Solves that uneven lie issue nicely.

Of course in reality, to some extent, every time a golfer uses a tee, they can be hitting off an uneven lie. The up side of using a a tee, is the tee can also be used as a levling device for the ball on severely uneven tee boxes.

The thing with boards and doormats is if there's not much surface area, they can slip. Still figuring that out.

I don’t know if you’ll notice the ball starting slightly left from such a short ball flight, but you might end up with some low point issues because a good swing will end up slightly fat. Choke down on the club a little or something?

    • Things didn’t work out with the cutting horse barn my wife was working for there in Virginia. Their Texas facility we were supposed to move down to ended up delayed for at least an extra year after they’d had us leave Virginia to meet them down there “shortly”. So we ended up getting some land by her family in Missouri and building a house of our own down here instead. Not as many courses, but there is one 5 minutes from the house that’s only $62/mo for both of us to be members at and other nicer ones within a reasonable drive as well.    @Rick_D I’ll try to remember to let you know when I’m heading up that direction. It may happen more frequently in the coming year since a dealer for a business I started recently is based out of St Charles so making deliveries myself might be more economical than shipping.
    • I don’t know why my swing got so vertical there. That wasn’t normal.    What did you mean by point 3? I get the hip turn portion.
    • It is. So, just 2 and 3 above now. 😄
    • Hopefully this one is better
    • Patrick Cantlay's strokes gained from 2024: I wonder if he takes more time on approach shots given that was the worst part of his game last season. And then here are his 2023 stats: Much better ball striking season. I wonder if there are any differences in his times between these two seasons. I tend to think he's just slow in general, but it'd be interesting to see his time differences.
