How Seriously Do You Take Golf?

Good point, and I agree that the premise is a good one. @False hopes, if you wouldn't mind, please do this:

I just started seriously this year (played more than 3 rounds). Previously, I liked playing but hated the time commitment. I'd go out drink and generally have fun. But this year, me being more serious about the game, I decided not to drink during my rounds. The reason is, I don't need alcohol to have more fun. It's simply fun being out and playing. Alcohol can wait

I take the game too seriously given my age, ability and amount of time I have to devote to practice. But part of my enthusiasm for the game is trying to improve. So as long as I feel I am making progress it's okay. If I feel like I am not improving it is not as much fun.

I take my own round semi-serious, always trying to go as low as I can on the day, but always playing by the ROG to the best of my ability. I try to let my partners/opponents do their own thing and play their own round, but if they are overly abrasive or just constantly mad, I won't play with them again.

The biggest problem I have to deal with for myself is being overly enthusiastic and putting other people off by it. I have a hard time controlling my love for the game, and my love for talking, so sometimes it is hard for me to shut my mouth and that could mess with others. Affecting someone else's ability to be as serious as they want is offensive and awful to me, which seemed to be the modus operandi of the OP. I guess if you always play with the same people and that's how they roll too, whatever, but not my scene.

I am as serious about golf as I am about literature.  I love reading...I love golf...and both are in my DNA.  I was raised by people who enjoyed both.

P.S.  Shouldn't that be "boath"?
