I have the R7 Driver that has much better dispersion than the M3, and I've tried the identical shaft in both heads? Has anyone tried a newish driver by 12 years and can't get any improvement in distance or dispersion, is this m3 head a lemon or it doesn't like purple ice shafts?

Driver technology has, IMO, advanced in the past 12 years, but perhaps you respond well to the shape of it, the weight of it, or some other thing. There's a LOT that goes into this sort of stuff - the balance of the club is important, even.

I have to confess I was a huge fan of the R7 driver. Personally I carried an R7 Quad for a quite few years. At that time I was in the camp that there was no reason to carry any non-Taylormade driver. Then came TWIST FACE!

I hate the look of the twist face. Hate it. In my opinion if you fight a hook or a slice that twist face makes it LOOK like its going to make a million times worse. I've had sales guys explain how twist face is supposed to work in theory and it makes sense. But to my eye when I set it behind the ball it just looks like its going to hit it either out of bounds left or out of bounds right. It just doesn't work for me.

I'm sure if you use a robot to hit shots with the M3 and the R7 you will be able to prove the M3 is more forgiving. But for me it doesn't work. Perhaps its the same for you. As @iacas said there's a lot that goes into how a driver performs for a human. If you are looking for a new driver, I'd suggest trying some other brands. Cobra and Ping always seem to be high performers for me, but to be honest there are so many good drivers out there, i think you are selling yourself short if you don't give a bunch of them a try.

Good luck.

It’s entirely possible the launch characteristics of the heads are different so you would actually need a different shaft in the M3.

Agree with that, in the past I played tennis to a much better level than golf and only used a prince approach racket. Feel was important to me and I had my racket strung @45lb or kgs forget which but my coach said it was like an onion bag lol but it worked very good for me...

Appreciate your advice, and your right I can try other brands. I’m not a one brand guy, I use them all lol. Besides the r7 driver I have Ping i20 Nickent Callaway Titliest and others I forget lol, all part of the learning curve for me. Happy holidays to all...

I did wonder about that, I asked at the range about trying different shafts for the m3 but they don’t stock them but will order them for me. Yeah right don’t think so, anyway I’ve sold my m3 for what I paid 2 years ago so all good,,,

    • My flop shots are 6-7° down (AoA). Does that answer it? 😄  The longer answer is… You have to be able to do both shots.
    • I hope you don't mind me raising this one from the dead. I got shortgamechef's video access thing for a few months in 2024. I watched his yip fix videos (the general gist is similar to the first video above, but with a lot more detail) and it made a lot of sense. I was working on it in my backyard off a mat for a while and my yippy thing was mostly gone. Aside from anything else, the flop shot using that technique is so easy and controllable. But I got onto a golf course for the first time of the year and found myself by the green on a downslope with the ball sitting down a little in the rough and I was, not to put too fine a point on it, f***ed. Shallow is all well and good from a good flat lie and I understand it, but you can't make that your be all and end all. I still don't know if it's a good idea to use steep all the time or just when you need to. I have a hard enough time with one technique, let alone too.  Just got a pitching skillest lesson with Erik and unless I misunderstood things some, he wants me a bit steeper. @iacas - where do you fall on the steep vs shallow argument and how do you vary it according to need?
