Play better by yourself?

I play better with people who are as good or better than me. When by myself I try more creative shots.

Also i guess i should say that i dont keep score when i play alone... But i take notes, ie; putt count, missed fairways, w/in 8 yards of the pin green shots.
But i definatly notice i hit the ball much better when im alone. But then again when im alone and im not happy with my shot i just drop a ball and try again.

When I try and play solo I usually get put into a 3some or another single....which I really don'tlike.

Yet, if you'd relax, you'd play better and they'd be happier to be with you. Once I convinced myself of this, I was able to relax, play better, and the low-handicappers I got paired with seemed happier to be with me. If it makes everyone happy and lowers your golf score, you gotta try it at least once, right?

I've promised myself a long time ago that when I'm a low-handicap player and paired with a high-handicap player, I'll make certain to make them feel welcome.

Personally, I don't really like playing alone. It's great when I just want to really work on some things and hit multiple shots for practice but otherwise I don't enjoy playing alone. As for how well I play... probably about the same, just not as fun for me.

I shoot better when I'm alone. If I don't like what I've hit, I'll just drop another ball and try again, or I'll take extra practice shots here, there, etc. It's also easier to get into the rhythm (I started birdie, par, par playing by myself the other day, and then I joined a threesome ahead. Played the next six holes in seven over. Maybe because they were all hacks it got to my head? I'm not sure but my game certainly went downhill from there.)

I prefer playing with a foursome though. That way slow play is less irritating because you're spending more time watching your buddies hit their shot rather than standing 250 yards out in the fairway, 3 wood in hand, waiting impatiently for the next 15 minutes for the green to clear. By then you've lost your rhythm, and you hit a dribbler.

I only played alone once last year, and i played remarkable. Its almost not believable, but i shot -3 on 9 holes playing alone.

I really enjoy playing alone from time to time though, especially when there is no waiting at all. It is just you, the fairway, and the hole, NO distractions at all. It is truely awesume.

true- but you need to get used to playing with others if you want to progress.

Yeah, you need to take all those thoughts and feelings of playing alone, to the course when you are in the presence of others

I play better when I'm with a competitive group. Having something on the line helps me focus. When I'm alone, my focus wanders. I've started when I'm alone, I just practice, often I'll hit two shots, pick the worst, then play two from there. If the worst insn't bad enough, I'll move a ball into a worse spot. This really helps me know what to do when I'm in a competitive round. I've seen all of the terrible spots and learned what the best shots are from those spots.

I tend to play best with my friends and strangers but not with family. For whatever reason I fold when I'm playing with my Uncle. I put way too much on myself to impress him

I play best in a group, especially with people I don't know so well. It just makes me focus more.

I play better solo, but I agree one needs to play in a group to really gauge where their game is or improve, since competition by definition includes other players.
