Nantz isn't going to trade the Masters, March Madness, and the Super Bowl for bad Monday Night Football games.

Update - Jim Nantz is staying at CBS:

No “Romo money” for Jim Nantz. The longtime face of CBS, Nantz does have a nice new, lucrative contract, according to sources, but he did not come close...

Being able to broadcast The Masters had a lot to do with it.

So Romo makes $18M a year. To do 18 NFL games roughly.

Nantz isn’t the color guy, but he’s working so many more weekends doing NFL, golf, basketball … and more. Why shouldn’t he get Romo money?

He’s the voice of CBS sports.

Brandi Carlisle is astronomically more talented than Taylor Swift. It’s an unfair system all around.

Music is a popularity contest. This isn’t nearly as much.

Except that it isn’t. One data point doesn’t make your case.

Play by play guys typically get less than the color analysts, so if Jim Nantz only did football, that would make sense.

My suggestion is that based on what you said, Jim doing more with weekends and multiple sports, seems it might be a reason Romo’s paid more. Doesn’t seem fair but can’t see why Romo is being paid more.

I think one of the main differences in salary regards to Romo v Nantz is that Romo is a former NFL Pro while Nantz is a lifetime commentator, not a former-Pro.

The years of watching Jim Nance hosting The Masters may be coming to and end. Nance is also co-host with Tony Romo on CBS's NFL games. Romo was paid almost 3 times what Nance is making and Jim isn't happy. ESPN  are making offers and the question of the day is....if Nance leaves CBS for ESPN, who would you like to see in the CBS anchor seat at Augusta to replace him?

The correct answer is Tony Romo!

Yeah...but that would argue why Nantz should be paid more right? The job is in the booth, not the field. And it shouldn’t matter what Romo used to make at a totally different job.

It goes to celebrity, Romo is a bigger celebrity than Nantz.  I'm not being critical of Nantz or saying his job is easier than Romo, it is all about the name.

It’s not his celebrity, it’s his expertise and ability to deliver it to the viewer they are paying for. Although he and his team were not that successful, he is a very knowledgeable former QB and sees things that most of us don’t. Nantz knows the game from the booth, but not from the trenches. There is a big difference there.

Good way of putting it, that is what I was trying to convey to @Vinskwhen he made the comment below.

See @boogieliciouscommdnts, he conveyed my thought in a better way.

    • It's likely per "category" of clubs, so irons would be one category, wedges would be a category, driver a category, fairway woods/hybrid a category, etc. They aren't going to charge you $50 per iron for a fitting. Almost all iron fittings are done with like a 6 or 7 iron, fitters don't carry full sets of every iron. So yes, if you use a 7 iron for the fitting and let's say you get fit into the P790 with a certain shaft, 1 degree flat and .5" longer than normal you would just order the full set of P790s with that shaft/lie angle/length combination and you'll be perfectly fine.
    • I think the $50 fitting price tag is per club. The clubs I am most interested in getting fitted for are irons. And I'd rather not spend a bunch on getting fitted for multiple irons. Would I be fairly safe to assume that choosing something like a 6 or 7 iron for fitting would likely relate to other lofts in the same configuration/make/model?
    • A Mevo is 500. Comes with little decals to hit balls inside too.
    • I replaced a 3 driving iron as it was called. If I hit it clean it went close to 180 like the hybrid does but it was very inconsistent. I had to aim left because it would fade and I could never hit it dead nuts straight. We have a lot of wind being by the ocean so a left to right wind was suicidal with that club for me. I don't have a lot of Shot Scope data so far that would show yardage as far as dispersion or proximity to hole goes, but so far everything is staying relatively tight. I am not spraying the ball, I feel like it goes where I aim, any thing off is user error and not the club.
    • Ok, great. Best of luck to you in the future. I gave you the answer for significantly less than $20k though, just sayin.
