I enjoyed the course. Really enjoyed the company. Did not play well. Did hit a handful of really good shots. Generally followed shortly thereafter by a horrible shot. It was a great time.

Ditto.

The course certainly had some faults. It was squeezed onto a parcel of land half of which was barely suitable for golf. So I think the architect did a mostly good job with what was given to him.

I was less happy with the course setup and maintenance. Greens were bumpy and speed was very inconsistent from one hole to the next. Too many cups were cut 3 yards from the front, and many others were cut on top of humps or on slopes 2% or more. It is no wonder pace of play was almost 5 hours.

My other gripes are that many of the original sand traps have been removed, dummying down the design intent to save money, and cart paths were often too close to the playing areas.

I probably would not play there again.

Maybe one with fewer than nine blind shots in the first eight holes and fewer 210-yard par fours. 🙂

Yea, those first three par 3's were all effectively long iron shots. BLAH!

Hole 2 and Hole 5 were OK. The rest on the front nine were meh.

Really late to this but had a blast seeing and playing with everyone again and meeting and cool folks.  Thanks, @iacas, for organizing it.  Can't wait for the next one!

You should have budgeted more for the hotel than the round of golf 🤣

    • Ok.  So I have this problem:    If I place the ball in the middle of my stance (when hitting my irons, like you're supposed to), I just can't seem to make good contact.  I'm chunking it; it seems like I'm hitting way behind the ball, and my clubhead is not yet at the bottom of the swing trajectory (ie where it's supposed to be when contact is made).     I'm not sure why this is.  I think it may be because I'm not bending enough at the waist, leaning forward.  I may be standing up too straight.  If I place the ball forward in my stance (by as much as 3-4 ball lengths, especially with my long iron), I get nearly perfect contact . . . but with a hook/pull tendency.
    • No. The path isn't linear - the farther forward, the more left (for a right-handed player) the club tends to be moving. There are a lot of factors that go into whether a player is more likely to draw/pull/fade it from a ball position that's "too far" forward, but… almost nobody plays a ball position that's "too far" forward. 😄
    • If you place the ball too far up in your stance (when hitting irons), are you more likely to hook it or slice it?  I think the answer is hook it, right?   Assuming a straight and consistent club path in your swing, after your club head nadirs out at the bottom of your swing and you enter into your follow through, you start to close the face.  So if you place your ball too far ahead in your stance, you will tend to hit is with a more closed faced, resulting in a hook.   Does that sound right?
    • Thank you for making my point. Good luck to him in defying the odds.
    • Interesting day at the range today. Seemed to have zero swing (or many depending on how you look at it) and was hitting every poor shot imaginable. Finally decided to just mimic my short swings I do with my practice club for the majority of my 5 minute daily practices. That did the trick. It felt as if my backswing ended just past hip high. I felt so connected and was getting great compression on shots. Distance may have suffered a bit but if shots end up as playable as these would have been I'll take the trade off.
