I don't agree with a good chunk of your list, @mchepp. You've done more to list a Troll Scale, not a Golf Swing Guru Crackpot Scale.

Golf Swing Crackpots, off the top of my head:

  • Cite how Ben Hogan did this (though this is becoming less common as the mystique wears off).
  • Use visual aids, often including home-filmed videos using pencils or pieces of cardboard or rudimentary training aids or at least still photos of a pro from a bad camera angle.
  • Use or cite how many "scientists" agree, often going back to some "long-forgotten" scientist or golfer who knew these things and was ignored for centuries/decades/etc.
  • Misspell words.
  • Claim to have a "secret" or that it's "easy" and "natural."
  • Claim to have personal experience, which often includes things like "I'm 67 years old, a +2, and I hit my 7I 185 yards!"
  • Often they'll use "geometry" or some other sort of science "badly" to explain how the right elbow is the center of the "circle" or something, or the apex of a triangle, or who knows what?
  • Etc.

Oh yeah! That guy who was obsessed with the ‘triangle theory’ or something like that. Years ago...lol. That was a doozy.

Golflug,

Since you asked in such a nice manner I will attempt to answer with some facts. The thumbs are the most dominant parts of the hands. If the dominant right thumb is not kept / forced from rolling over horizontally during the DS it will ALWAYS do so and ruin your golf shot . You might want to try keeping your little ( pinkie ) finger leading and always horizontally above your  dominant right thumb while  sweeping the shaft down and around your torso. Kinda like TW , Hogan and most great players . That might lower your hdcp. down to my - 4 at age 82 . Just trying  to help you. You can deny human genetics if you want , but I would suggest you don’t.
Not necessary to build muscles in the hands . They are not capable of propelling any object very far .
Good luck .

-4 or + 4?  I'm thinking at 82 a 4 would be a one-in-a-million handicap.

@Lane Holt, Use the @mentions function and use quotes. They are there for a purpose.

Also, none of what you wrote makes any sense at all.

It’s getting to the unfortunate point where this person is ignoring your valid point or trolling. I can’t tell which.

No facts here. The only listed Lane Holt that I see in Georgia holds a 5.7 HCP with 5.5 being his lowest.  More lies and intellectual dishonesty.

Good research!  I am, at the moment, participating on a news forum.  The current President played golf today for the first round of his administration.  The news says he is a 6.7 handicap.  The former President is a +2.3.  I don't believe either.

Here’s the problem, @Lane Holt:

  • At any point after about A6, when the thumb is pointing almost directly away from the target, to impact (A7) when it’s pointing almost directly at the ball, the thumb is “rolling” across the grip. The back of the left hand goes from facing the ball, to facing the target, in this time as well.
  • The thumb, from A6 to A7, is lower “horizontally” than the pinkie.

Your next penalty will be 10 points (and will be given, as per our rules, by a moderator not participating in this discussion) which will put you at 20, with those restrictions. You have two things to do, and once again, you did neither. This is your last warning.

P.S. You’re a 5.7 index, not a “4.”

Not remotely accurate.

You haven’t received any warnings from any moderators for “thoughts and ideas.”

You’ve received warnings for intellectual dishonesty and for failure to quote and properly tag members to whom you’re replying.

@Lane Holt, I don’t understand your logic. @iacas is having a discussion of ideas and because he is pointing out his perceived errors of your ideas, doesn’t mean they aren’t welcomed. It means he disagrees.  But yes, you are simply proving what we have already seen, you don’t really want discussion

    • You can pre-order an R50 here for pretty rapid shipping (these are back-ordered almost everywhere): https://www.playbetter.com/products/garmin-approach-r50-golf-launch-monitor-simulator?ghref=2301%3A700794. This is an affiliate purchase, and I'm willing to kick back lifetime ad-free Supporter membership here on TST or a 90-minute GEARS session for the cost of a regular member lesson (about 1/3 the cost). Also, I'll record a video myself soon when I get an R50.
    • Day 58 - 2024-11-27 Some quick 90-yard shots on a particular hole… before a lesson and testing out multiple Foresight Launch Monitors on GSPro.
    • Day 209 (27 Nov 24) - Easy session with the LW - short pitches replicating greens side up and downs. Finished up with the 7i and hard foam balls - making 1/2 to 3/4 swings with deliberately slowed tempo…from varied lies.
    • Yes, this is the 2024 model. DSG ruined what Callaway perfected for most golfers. A darn good 3 piece golf ball. Now it's a 2 piece cheap ball. To me a 2 piece ball is fine and a 3 piece budget ball is better. I prefer a slightly harder ball, something in the 65-75 compression range that will perform similar to the old Gamer. The Titleist tru-feel is pretty good. I planned on giving Maxfli straightfli a try.
