Hello everyone.  I have a set of Cobra F8 one lengths (drunk black Friday online purchase lol).  Ditched my starter set for these.  When I catch them flush, I love them.   However, I think its weird how I hit them.   I can only hit them well if I play them basically at my front foot.   I'm saying about 2 ball lengths back from driver set up.  If I try to position the ball in 7iron setup on all clubs like they supposed to, its thin, fat , shank.  I been playing for 3 years, no lessons, just a weekend warrior,  end of last season I had a few 87-89 rounds.   Has anyone else seen setups like this, or is this more of a "swing your swing" thing.   I play hockey, so getting the hips really involved in the weight transfer helps me in the scenario, kind of like a slap shot. Really helps me go attack the ball instead of hanging weight back

First, playing off your front foot is not bad at all. I play everything forward at my left heel and just widen my stance as the club get longer. I get good height on my shots this way.

Second, if you post your swing in the Member swings section, we can help you even more.

Thanks for quick response.   I'll try to get a swing video.   I actually tried to do one yesterday with my phone in super slow motion,  but it only shoots like 5 seconds at a time, and it's not enough time for me to hit record,  run over to ball and hit lmao.   I'm sure there's a way to do it, sadly I'm 33 years old and not big into these smart phones. Maybe I'll get my wife, to her likely disappointment, show me or record me

Depending on your phone, you may have the ability to also set a delay on the start of recording from when you hit the record button (like the timers on actual cameras, some phones have that built into their camera app as well).

Otherwise you would likely also be fine asking someone else on the range to help you take a quick video, so long as they're not actively working on something and aren't the earbuds-in super focused type. If they're just finishing up, just arriving, or taking a bit of a break I've had luck asking somebody nearby if they could help me take a quick video so I can better see what I'm doing (ymmv depending on area and who specifically is around).

It is most likely your swing leading to those shots being consistent with the ball further forward in your stance.  The advantage of single length clubs is that a consistent swing and setup work wonders, even though you might not be hitting it perfectly.  If the ball flight with all clubs is good, don't try to change it.  The pro's take a couple of months to overhaul a swing and they practice many hours a day

It's one of those things. I have the F9 OL. I "lost distance" this year. I found out exactly how I lost distance when I did a TopTracer session. I was hitting some shots my old distance when I caught them flush. But most of the time I was well short. I was hitting them ever so slightly heavy... meaning I wasn't getting through the shot.

But like you, if I played the ball forward, after a few thins, it forced me to get through the shot and I got my old distances. I'm thinking this is a maybe I should just play the ball more forward.

I  noticed the same when I bought these one lengths.  My distance dropped at the range, and weirdly my 5i was shorter than my 6i.

Last season I played ball position foward with the OLs.   Iron play was pretty good for me, third season and shooting mid upper 80s.   Start of this season was atrocious, went back to foward ball position (Idk why I tried standard ball position in first place).  Last time out, most of my iron shots were flush, high and long.  It was so flush I was adding 10-15 yards from last season.   I had an uphill, 145 yard to middle approach, from the rough.  Pin was back, wanted to land it at 140 to be safe. Took out my 8i, flushed it, came out hard and nice height.   Whoops, fore! Over the green into the back patio at the  clubhouse, luckily no one was there lmao.  Weather definitely played a factor tho, was first hot day for me here in NY this season

If you’re going to do the middle of the stance that’s recommended by some... (I think the one ball position, most of the time theory works a lot better.) Try this drill. Start by taking a chip shot length swing. Once you make good contact, a few times, go to waist high to waist high (with your hands), then shoulder to shoulder notice how the weight shift feels.

If you think I’m nuts, I played golf with a waist high to a little passed waist high swing for two years.

sweet video.  A lot of help.  My ball position is probably another quarter of a roll toward, maybe a tad less, but same concept.  Actually makes me feel better, seeing that I'm not the only one who sets up like this
