  1. 1. Do You Want To See More Player's Heartbeats

    • Yes - I want to see them all.
    • No - I don't care what their heartbeat is.
    • Yes - and show me their blood pressure and SPO2 levels, too.

I see they're now showing Rory's heartbeat from Whoop. Frankly, as long as it's beating, I really don't GAS what their heartbeat is at any particular moment. How about you?

I voted No, because I don’t want to “see them all” per the YES option, but it would be interesting to see in the bigger moments

Why not? it's interesting. I've seen it on a few LPGA Tour broadcasts, and you can see it going up when they face a tricky shot. That's cool.

They played a literal heartbeat sound in Tiger Woods the video game under pressure situations… because it's interesting.

How the body reacts to pressure, even at the elite level, is interesting.  It's not something that I want to see shown as a matter of routine on the television broadcasts week after week, however.

So don't look at it.

When I've seen it used, too, it's not "a matter of routine." They break it out for a few shots here and there.

I'd love to see it for an F1 driver, for example, even if I could have it on as a piece of telemetry the whole race.

I'd vote "Sure, more information is better." If I'm not interested I won't look.

My bag is an ever-changing combination of clubs.

A mix I am forever tinkering with.

From what I've seen so far, Rory's heartbeat goes up a bit when he swings a club. Big surprise. It goes down after he's swung the club. Another surprise.  It moves little when he's putting and the activity is lower. Again, yawn. He doesn't stand there all nervous and sweaty with his heartbeat racing before a particularly tough putt - he just goes about his business and his heartbeat moves up and down a bit with his level of activity. As does mine.

And I've seen on the LPGA Tour a player's heart beat sit at 86 for a bit, then as they hit a shot on a par three with a pond, and their ball just clears the pond, it get up to 128 before slowly, slowly dropping back down to 90 or so.

It's the second round (or first round), so we're not really in too many "pressure" situations yet.

I like seeing information like that. It's interesting to see them as they stand over a tough shot, or if they have 1st tee jotters or what have you. I know there are situations where my heart beats faster, so it's good to see that it happens to the pros as well.

I hear what you're saying.

My heart rate goes down slowly after sudden intense activity, too. I figure it's because my body would "rather" drop levels slowly just in case the activity should resume quickly as opposed to having to ramp up from rest levels each time. To me, none of that is unexpected.

Kind of interesting to see the heartbeat but it is not something I see being heavily desired.

    • Probably since the golfer has to swing the club back and up. The hands have to move back and up. You can feel them go back and up just by turning the shoulders and bending the right arm, because it brings your hands towards your right shoulder.  The difference is if you maintain width or not. Less width means a shorter feeling swing path so the more you need to lift the arms. Being as someone who gets the right arm bend at 110+ degrees, it's 100% a timing issue. I am use to like a 1.5+ second backswing. It probably should be like 1 second at most. Half a second or more will feel like an eternity. I have had swings where I keep my right arm straighter and I am still trying to time the downswing based on the old tempo.  Ideally, for me, it is probably going to be a much quicker and shorter (in duration) backswing, while keeping the right elbow straighter. Which also means more hinging to get swing length without over swinging.

    • I'm currently recuperating from surgery, so no golf, but have been thinking about this quite a bit. This and the don't overbend the right arm thing. It's hard for me to even pose the position, so I'm not 100% sure, but I feel like it's impossible to have the right humerus along the shirt seam and not overbend your right arm, unless your hands are down near your hips. If the left arm is up at or above the shoulder plane and your right arm is bent less than 90 degrees, then your right humerus has to raise or your hands will get pulled apart. Your left hand can't reach your right hand unless either the right upper arm is up or the right arm is overbent. Is that right? If it is, then focusing on not overbending the right arm would force you to raise the humerus. And actually thinking further on it, if you do overbend your right arm, then you're basically forcing your upper arm down or forcing your left arm to bend. Since (for me at least) bending the left arm too much is not something I think I need to worry about, it means that the bend in the trail arm is really the driving force behind what happens to the right humerus.
    • I managed to knock off a 3, a 13, and a 15 a couple of weeks ago. The 3 was a 185 yard par 3 with a 6 iron to 12 feet. 13 was a 350 yard par 4, which was a 2 iron and a 9 iron to about a foot. 15 was a 560 yard par 5 with a driver in a bunker, 4 iron into the semi, gap wedge to 8 feet and a putt.
