Hi everyone, four of us have a 7 night trip arranged from the uk to Florida May 22, we have 4 courses booked for us.

Providence, Southern Dunes, Highlands Reserve and Shingle Creek.

Are these good courses? Any you might swap out for better?

Thanks in advance.

All good courses, I play three of them on the regular with my men's group.

Shingle Creek is a resort course, meticulously well maintained, and a favorite.  A keeper.

Providence, Southern Dunes, and Highlands Reserve are fun courses and well maintained, but just know they located within neighborhoods and not quite on the same level as Shingle.  The difference in green fees reflect this.  Out of the 15 or so courses we play in rotation, these three are among my favorites for sure.

If your budget allows, I'd look at Streamsong for a bucket list round, located about an hour from Orlando.  They have four amazing courses, and May is the perfect time to play it.  Walking only that time of year I believe.  You won't regret the extra effort and expense.

Grand Cypress is going through some major construction, but I'd still recommend a round on the Jack Nicklaus designed Links Course (formerly the New Course).

Celebration would be my Disney course of choice, but others may recommend differently.

Slightly less fancy, but still one of my favorite local courses, is St. Cloud.

Mission Inn is about 40 minutes outside of Orlando, and has two world class courses that host a lot of amateur events.  Las Colinas is a Gary Koch design that I love, wide fairways and big greens.  Less water than the other course, El Campeon.

So many great courses around here I'm sure you'll get some other great suggestions.  Hope you and your friends have a great trip!

I spent some time there last January, played Shingle Creek and Southern Dunes.  We also played both courses at Orange County National, and really enjoyed them.

Like @DaveP043 said, Orange County National is nice. I’d recommend Panther Lake and Crooked Cat, best two courses there IMO. Also, OCN has the  largest driving range in the country. Quite a thing to see.

    • I know one recent college grad who's trying the same thing.  This guy was a Division III All-American, went on to play one year at Division I LSU, and is not working hard.  He won the Gulf States Open, a pro event, and made it to the second stage of the Korn Ferry Tour School late in the fall.  And didn't make the cut to get to the final stage.  I won't talk about swing or play stuff, but I believe there are a couple of things that are essential.  Obviously, talent, and drive, or work ethic.   I can't tell you how to do it, but you HAVE to get through it.  Golf is going to be your life, and it takes lots of work. Two more things that are really critical.  You'll need the facility to be able to practice.  My young friend stayed in Baton Rouge, as a past player on the team he can still use the LSU practice facilities.  And money.  Its unlikely you'll be able to work a full-time job and practice the way you will need to.  You'll probably need backing, from a parent, from a consortium of friends or club members., something to support you. Good luck, its not an easy path, but anything is possible.  Another young man from our area, Mike Brennan, just won for the first time on the "big" PGA Tour.
    • No one in the world is as smart as Phil thinks he is.
    • Get more comfortable with being uncomfortable. If you don’t like practicing then give up now. You don’t have the passion to become a pro. Unless that mentality changes you won’t do well under stressful situations.    Call the PGA Tour and ask. They probably have resources available.

    • Thanks man, sometimes it’s hard to improve bc when I’m not feeling comfortable I don’t like practicing bc I get frustrated. Any advice?
